    Hi,

I'm currently using windows vista RTM with my 6615WD, but i've got a problem with my slot-in dvd-rom (sony dw q78a). When I boot to windows my drive doesnt show, and i've got a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager saying that the device cannot start (code 10), however, if I deactivate and then re-activate the dvd-rom a couple of times, it usually starts to work after a few tries, is anyone else experiencing the same behaviour? if so, has anyone been able to find a fix?

The Firmware is sys1 btw, downloaded from ftp.zepto.dk

Hi. I had the same problem when I had Vista RTM installed. This used to be a issue in XP as well. But Zepto fixed it with a BIOS update.

I know two ways to get it to work temporary. One is boot the computer with a cd/dvd in the drive. The other one is to add the cd/dvd-drive with the 'add hardware' function in control-panel.

I don't use Vista anymore because some of the programs and games I'm addicted to doesn't work with Vista And I get a lot of bluescreens. I presumably won't use Vista until servicepack 1.

ps: I have a Zepto Znote 6214W but I guess Zepto have the same faults on every computer with allmost the same hardware.

Thanks for the answer, I've sortof noticed that the problem doesnt appear when i'm booting with a cd/dvd inserted, didnt know about the "add hardware" thingie though.

The problem for me is that as far as I know, zepto hasnt released a fix for the 6615WD yet, guess I'll just have to wait and see :)

PS. I never experienced the same kind of problem in XP, always worked smoothly there

This was probably just an issue with 6214W then. But it was fixed in the z1.12 BIOS update.

Vista's driver support is not where it needs to be yet, so that may be your problem--especially considering you didn't experience this problem in XP.

Like kehax said, it may be best to hold off on Vista until SP1 is released.

I'm running the final version of Vista and I'm having this problem too :(.

Zepto has released a BIOS update (1.10) which claims to add Vista support, but it didn't fix my problem with the Sony slot-in drive :(
Does anyone know whether the 1.10 BIOS update is supposed to fix this?

I'm BTW not able to add the drive through Add Hardware, but booting with a disc in the drive works for me too.

Has anyone come across a permanent fix?

Personally I wasnt able to find any fix for it except starting with a cd/dvd in the drive, but eventually I just gave up and reinstalled xp, which im running now

Well, I haven't found a permanent fix, but I've found out that if you put a disc in the drive and go to device manager and deactivate and activate the drive, Then it'll work. I think that's easier than de-/activating five or more times or booting with a disc in the drive.

I contacted Zepto, and they have just replied. they say that a new BIOS update, which should solve the problem, is on its way.

I've just spoken to Zepto which says that the v1.10 bios does NOT fix the sony slot-in problems under Vista, it seems that the problem is with the Sony firmware, but Sony is refusing to aknowledge this...

I was offered, free of charge, to get a Samsung non slot-in drive, or wait for Samsung to come with a slot-in drive (which should happen soon) and get my Sony slot-in switched to that one instead... (unless sony actually comes with a fix)

Hmm, that sucks... :( I knew about the 1.10 not fixing the problem, but I didn't know it was a problem on Sony's side.

Looks like it not going to be fixed then. :(

Almost one year later and the problem still exists... Vista Ultimate 32 Bit with all known patches, 6615WD...
Booting with optical medium in the drive makes it accessable - no DVD or cd and I have my yellow ! ...

Sramsram, yes we stopped selling Sony drives because of this, as Sony did not want to fix the issue eventhough they had fixed a similar issue earlier on under XP. You could try contacting our International support via the Webform on the UK Zepto site and he'll might be able to help you out with getting the drive exchanged or something similar.

Thank you, Rene S. Everything came to a good end. Zepto (international, not Germany) exchanged my Sony DVD drive for a Samsung one which works fine.
