Please help. I'm not sure how this happened, but it looks like there's some dirt actually trapped *inside* the screen. It takes the shape of some kind of grey smudging that isn't as visible from certain angles but dead on it's very visible on a white background.
What do I do? How did it get there? Is it really something else? can it be fixed?

it could be that you accidentally pushed too hard on the back of the screen and that's how it formed. Ive had this happen to me before. I haven't found any solutions to it though.
let us know if you find an answer -
No, I didn't push on it.
It looks like a grey smudge. I thought that if I pressed on the screen, it would dissipate it. Unfortunately now there's kind of a light line from certain angles but it's not normall visible.
Stil no clue on what it is or how it got there. IT's also not visible at certain angles but it is at any comfortable angle. 3-dimensionally though, it's behind behind the "protective" layer of the screen. Does anyone know if, like a mobile phone, there's a second layer underneath? -
Can you take a picture and show us this grey smudge ?
-
No, I have no camera at the mo
Zeptos guy asked me that too. If my bathroom was better lighted I'd use my webcam in the mirror.
I can sort of describe it though - it looks like a cloud, basically and is medium grey, maybe tinted slightly yellow, in colour. -

How big is it?
-
Don't you or any of the people you know have a camera or a built-in camera on their phone?
-
It's huge. It's a bunch of diagonal clouds that's nearly 5 inches long and an inch and a half "wide".
As I said, I can't send this off as I need the laptop for college work. If I knew how to open up the screen without leaking all the Liquid out and I could clean it off it would help a lot.
Might see if I can buy a cheap digital camera tomorrow. -

I don't think the liquid crystals are actually fluid, but I doubt if the display can be dismantled. You can read Wikipedia for a guide to the construction.

This is getting really agitating :/
Does nobody know how to open up the screen for cleaning? All sorts of things no doubt can get trapped in there, so there has to be a way. Whenever i watch anime or anything and there's a big grey smear on someone's face it looks silly and annoyng. -

It's the one bit of notebooks that I have not had need to get into previously. Look for circular rubber or plastic pads near each corner. These cover the screws which hold the front and back together (there may also be other clips around the edges). There may be a protective layer in front of the LCD panel itself, but that's as far as you can go. As far as I know from seeing smaller LCD panels, they are effectively sealed units.

If it's sealed, the dust is probably where I can get to it anyway, I imagine. Probably on the back of it. So no chance of messing it up from a slightly messy movement, is there? I should be fine if I keep a somewhat steady hand?
-
I see the screws now alright. Just wondering how sensitive an opeartion this is? Should I wait to go somewhere where I've more room, or if I'm just careful should I be fine? Better go home and find my screwdriver...
-
Couldn't open it all the way. Also, can't get the catch mechanism to go back in properly -_- Argh.
How much would a replacement screen be? -
Where can I get a replacement screen? I'd want one a bit brighter than this one maybe.

A new screen from Zepto will cost the following
3886 Danish Kroner (DKK)
or
521 Euroes
or
363.50 Pounds (GBP)
This will include the cost of the screen ,fitting and shipping within Denmark. I do not know which country you are from, If you are from outside Denmark there would be a small extra shipping cost to get the notebook back to you
The resolution of the screen is 1650 x 1080 and it is matte -
Eep.
Good news though, from messing with the brightness controls and watching the way it reacts(er, it doesn't), it doesn't seem to be the screen itself that has the problem, it must indeed be dust of some description. -

ZeptoUK, just to correct you, it's 1680x1050 in resolution.
-
Okay, so I think it's probably CONDENSATION now. How should I fix that?
-

Zepto guys, any idea how I'd get rid of the condensation? it's actually a cloud pattern, not a smudge or dirt.... let me 'shop it for you.

Here we go:

Imagine that a little blurrier(sorry, it's very hard to do it when I have the same thing on my screen). It's like having a raincloud in my screen. -
Eep, better pic:

Looks like pressure points. Not something the warranty will cover and nothing you can clean off unfortunately.
They normally appear if the LCD panel has experienced continuous pressure from the likes of books or other hard objects from the back of the LCD cover. -
Keep in mind it's not that opaque. It's much fluffier, cloudier, a little watery... again the best way to describe it is that it looks like a raincloud in my screen. if it is condensation, what should I do?
-
as rene said that looks alot like a pressurse smudge
-
Oh man. I have the contrast turned way up on my laptop(always had problems with this, might see if they have a spare LCD screen in college anyway), didn't realise quite how that looked. Eep.
Here, I took a photo:

Sorry about the blur/lack of detailing. Up close, it looks very cloudy. It doesn't look very "pixelly" if you know what i mean. To me, pressure smudges are kind of a lighter colour than the screen, generally...
There's been no real pressure TO it. The only pressure on the laptop was me trying to rub off those grey marks and that didn't damage it. While it's possible I could have "leaned" on my laptop way back when I was at college, those clouds only appear during the summer, and after being in a damp area. I can't think how they'd be anything other than condensation, though at the same thing I'm not sure I've seen condensation look like a cloud before. -

Sorry, it's not a problem I've had, so I can't comment.
John -
Well I kind of have my monitor tilted so I don't see it so much(since if it IS condensation, it won't be completely opaque). Unfortunately there is a "Pressure smudge" at a certain angle from me trying to remove it so it's hard to get a good balane.
