    Hello All,

I've recently received my Zepto 6625wd 15.4 inch and think its great, but am not sure I have installed everything properly. It didn't come with any instruction manuals which is ok if everything works fine. Although I don't plan on using this system for a gaming laptop, I couldnt resist test out a couple games and was a bit disappointed. I tried running neverwinter nights 2, and the gameplay was a bit choppy and not as smooth as I expected consider it has a 512mb 8600 card. The resolution was set mid level. I installed the nvidia drivers that came with the zepto CD, are these the latest ones? Is there something that I'm missing?

    My Spec is

    XP pro
    2.2 cpu
    2 gig of 6400 ram
    160 gig hybrid HD.

Anyone can shed light onto whether I have missed something?

You can check on the Zepto download site for anything additional or newer. Does Device Manager show any unrecognised devices?

In the absence of a 6625 manual, you might be able to use the 6615 User Guide.

I've installed the latest drivers from the Zepto site. I'll check in the device manager for any unrecognised devices when I get home, although I don't think there would be. I installed most things on the CD that came with it apart from stuff like CIR/FIR which i don't know what it is.

    Did you game on battery?

Download and run 3dMark06. If you get a score of about 3000 at default settings you are fine.

Hi, stupid question but i can't get an good answer from zepto support so maybe someone here knows the answer to my issue. Why does windows say that i have 2046mb ram, bios says 2047... i mean it should be 2048 (2gig) zepto said that functions in graphic card used the mem, but i don't buy it since it has 512 dedicated mb. it is the 6625wd model i got with the geforce 8600m gt gcard i got.. i have seen screenshots of other users having the same mem in win but i still want to know what it is that uses mem from start making the avalable mem to drop 1-2mb's.

I cant tell you why it happens, I dont really know but the graphics card and turbo cache might have something to do with it. Maybe the graphics card takes 1mb just to get a foot in so to speak. It can take up to 512MB of turbo cache.

I read somewhere a long time ago that the memory table (like the memory index telling where what is stored) takes up a few MB and that they are not available as memory to applications.

What I can tell you is that is normal.

Ok, finally got around to doing the 3dmark. I've installed the latest NVIDIA drivers and installed drivers for all the "unknown" devices in device manager. I got a 3dmark of 3209. Is this normal for my configuration?

Thanks for all your responses! these forums are great.

It's better than the 2,773 score of the Samsung R70 with T7300 and 8600M GS but notebookcheck lists a 3DMark06 result of 8,566 for the 8600M GT. This is an average of 4 results.

John i think you meant 3500 and not 8500. The Asus G1s with the 8600M GT with faster memory scores about 3800-4000. 3200 is a good score for a 8600M GT with the slower memory. It looks like your computer is running fine.

Not sure what the problem with NWN2 is. It should run pretty well.

For anyone who's interested, was thinking the 6625 and 6224 is basicly the "same" setup
My 6224 scored 3714 points in 3dmark06 with all the supplied standard drivers.
    with:
    2.0ghz cpu
    2x1024 667mhz ram
    160gb 7200
    and ofcourse the 8600gt

But the 6224W has a 1440x900 screen which means it can only run 3dMark06 at the non default resolution of 1280x800. The 6625WD has a higher resolution so it will run 3dMark06 at default with 1280x1024. So you cant compare the 2 scores.

Ok, thats true, it was ran on 1280x1024. I do have fast memory.. im quite sure its clocked at 800, but windows xp doesnt allow for this right?

I suspect my 5,400 hard disk has something to do with my score. I needed a quieter less spinning drive. I think nwn2 must be an odd case because i've tried Morrowind - oblivion, and that runs at highest resolution very nicely, which probably a bad thing.. because I should be working NOT playing games.

    Thanks for all the replies.

    hey,

been using me 6625wd for 2 weeks now, mostly its all great, just some minor problems maybe you's can help out with.

    1. im running vista HP but when i use the sleep feature, it sleeps but when i want it to wake up..it doesnt, it just 'powers on' again but nothing shows....any ideas?

    2. i have noo idea where that 'DTS calibration' thing is...its been said its in the BIOS but i have look, nothing saying anything about DTS. also someone said resetting the BIOS to default will solve the problem ( of the fan speeding up and down constantly)...but that doesnt work either...

also minor problem i've found on the keyboard is the PgUp key doesnt work properly...1 out of 3 presses of the key work....unless u specifically press it a an angle...but i can live with dat. i hardly use that key.

and the noise...mmm to me it does sound noisy...but it could be my area/room since if u turn off the laptop my place is silent. will have to take it out for a test drive.

but the cooling is great. or the nc-1000 cooling pad is great. i've ran oblivion for several hours and its ever reached about 76 degs for the gfx :D

any help would be great!. thanks.

Hmm i got myself a 6224W and setting the bios to default did the trick for me.
The fan just works crazy for like 5 sec when i boot it up. After that it's almost scilent

Haven't tried the sleep feature yet, i just close the lid on my lappy and it goes to sleep. they only light is a pulsing orange one. And when i open the lid again vista starts running.

Side note: I really like that i can open the lid with one hand ^_^

    Hey all,

I'm new to this forum, anyway... I got a Znote 6625WD today with the below specs. When I ran 3d mark 06 I got a score of 2627... am I missing something? Should it not at least over 3k? I used the drivers that came with the CD.
This notebook cost me a a lot of money and right now I am not happy.

    Intel Duo Core t7500 2.2ghz
    4gb zepto 667 ram
    512mb 8600m gt
    100gb SATA 7200rpm

Ok, you should get more. Btw remember that you need a 64-bit OS in order to make full use of 4GB RAM. The normal 32-bit can only manage about 3GB I believe. What resolution did the 3dmark 06 run at?

I found that out after I made the purchase. Damn Zepto... why do they offer a 4GB RAM upgrade when they only sell 32bit processors!?

3d mark was running at 1280x1024.

    I got my 6625 yesterday.

    The specs is as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 Santa Rosa (2,0)
    2048 MB DDR2 PC5300 ram (2x1024 MB)
160 GB Hybrid harddrive 5400 rpm m/256 MB
    15,4" Wide SXGA+ TFT (1680x1050)
    GeForce Go8600M-GT 512 MB

    OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

    Performance:

    3Dmark 06: 2815 (1280 x 1024)

    Windows Experience Index:

    Processor: 4,9
    Memmory: 4,8
    Graphic: 4,5
    Gamegraphic: 5,1
    Primary harddrive: 5,2

Until now i have only used the drivers from zeptos, which was in the packages.

As other users in this thread im a bit dissapointed by the benchmark, and therefore i like to see more ppl posting there benhmark with the 6625wd.
I surely would have hoped getting on the right side of 3000 i 3Dmark06.
Aswell im a bit suprised by the graphic score in vista (windows aero) in the Experience Index not to go above 4,5, but on the other hand im not quite sure what that score precise stands for.

I think that vista maybe takes the top of the benchmark result? (maybe switch back to XP pro)?

Aswell i like to know some advice in selecting harddrive for this, i was thinking of getting a 7200 rpm instead, but at the moment zepto only has 100gb on store. What difference would i feel switching?

All in all im satisfied with the 6625 and it is really a nice screen, i must say.

I just read a review of 6625 from a finnish magazine called MikroBitti. They liked the perfomance of 6625 in general and it's gaming abilities. :)

Zepto is probably releasing 160 & 200 GB 7200rpm drives during this autumn, but of course you can buy it from some other place and switch it yourself. As for the performance, it usually works 10-20% faster than your 5400 rpm drive.

Vista's drivers in general aren't really mature yet, i'd suggest using XP for gaming for a while, and waiting for Vista's support to become better.

    Hope this helps,

You could try and update the graphic card drivers and see if you can get higher results. I think John mentioned it somwhere in the zepto forum how to do it.

It would be interesting to see the difference in 3d mark score when you are using xp instead of vista!

Edit: the thread on how to update your graphic card drivers: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=137831&highlight=165

Ok I changed the drivers to 165.01 and I now got a 3dmark 06 score of 3023. I also got a 10fps boost when running the css video stress test, ie from 41fps to 51fps with 1680x1050, everything on max apart from filtering (x4) and AA (x4).

I still think this notebook is capable of more so I will experiment with the other drivers later today and I will keep everybody updated.

BTW Thanks for the advice Megatron.

I think so too. Haven't tried any games yet on mine, but i will today. It's a new card and drivers will be better when the time moves forward i guess.

And dont thank me, thank the nice Mr. John Ratsey ;)

3000-3100 is about right for vista. Most other 8600M GT GDDR2 benchmarks you see from the Dell 1520, Compal IFL90 and 6224W are run at 1280x800 or overclocked cards. They get 3500-3800 which is about 20% more with 20% less pixels. With XP you can also gain 100-200 points or more.

    Thank you Mr Ratsey :)

I did some more tests with various drivers that people on this forum said they are using and I have had some interesting results.

Firstly I have noticed than when using the 165.01 drivers I had problems with the sleep function of the notebook. When I closed the screen and then opened it again the notebook would remain in sleep mode and I could not "wake" it up, thus forcing me to shut it down.

I then tried the 162.22 drivers however I had problems installing those.

Next I tried downloading the 162.18 drivers but after extracting the exe I noticed that there were driver files missing, eg. setup.exe etc.

Next I installed the most recent drivers; 163.14. In the CSS video stress test I got the same result as on the 165.01 drivers, ie 51fps with everything on max apart from filter (x4) and AA (x4), 1680x1050. However I only got a 3dmark 06 score of 2313!!!

Finally I decided to go for the 158.45 drivers. Again, very similar to the 165.01 drivers, 51fps in CSS video stress test and a 3dmark 06 score of 3036, but this time the sleep function seems to be working properly now.

I will Install Stalker and maybe Oblivion tomorrow and see how the 158.45 drivers handle these.

So from experiance thus far, I dont think that the current drivers will improve my 6625WD's 3dmark 06 score of 3000-ish.

In conclusion, if you just got a Znote 6625WD then go for the 158.45 drivers. :D
