Is anyone using Adobe Lightroom on his zepto?
I installed it on my 6625WD (T7700, 120gb 7200rpm, 2gb ram) and it doesn't run smoothly at all! When I scroll through my photos, it acts al jerky... When I want to edit/develop a photo, all actions take way to long imo!
I find this really strange because on a toshiba of a friend of mine it runs perfect (1,6ghz centrino, 60gb 5400rpm, 2gb ram, Geforce FX Go5200 64MB).
I have about 2000 photos in my library, I rendered all 1:1 previews...
Anybody has any idea's on why this doesn't run smooth?
thanks.

That friend would be me.. (my zepto is in for repairs)
So i switched back to my old notebook (Toshiba Sattelite Pro M30)
Wich is a beautifull machine, it even outperforms the latest performance notebooks on heavy programs
-
Could it be because of the gpu? (8600m GT)
When I put my color quality to 16 bits, it goes much smoother! (still not smooth enough imo)
Could it be the gpu is'nt working full power or something? -
I get this from the system info screen in lightroom:

Well if other programs like games run fine, theres a problem with the program, most likely something between SP3 and the program
-
Games run fine!
I think I tried it before with SP2 and that didn't work well either... I then uninstalled it but now I really want to be able to use lightroom...
I have no significant background programmes running and no antivirus... -
I can confirm that it doesnt work on SP1, SP2 and 3, tried them alle when I made a fresh install and the upgraded through the service packs
-
Is the processor running at full speed?
-
It is running at full speed, sometimes 80% load... so it uses the 2 cores...
I'm now going to try and install newer graphic card drivers, maybe that helps. -
I'm using lightroom on my 6625, and I have no problem - quite zippy, in fact !
Mines a T7500, 2GB ram, 120GB HD...
Not sure what's wrong with yours then. Maybe because you are using a beta version? It is up to 2.4 now... -
I tried installing different kind of drivers from laptopvideo2go and that didn't help either...
I found this: http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?t=2137 but that didn't help either!
Maybe I'll have to try a different version of lightroom (not the beta) but that won't help either I suspect.... -
By 2.4, you mean 1.4 right? I have tried both the 1.4 and 2.0 beta on this notebook (Toshiba) and both versions work fine, tough 1.4 was a bit faster...
-
I just tried 1.3, and it is at least as bad as 2.0!
What graphics card driver and what bios are you using? -
And on what BIOS are you?
-
Sorry, of course I meant version 1.4 - typing while tired not recommended!
I am using bios Z15N008 and version 169.09 Nvidia drivers. -
Lighroom is not GPU accelerated. So the graphics card drivers dont matter as long as they are stable. Lightroom did have a problem with nvidia drives a while back but I think it has been resolved a long time ago. That problem was todo with the multi display manager nvidia uses. It screwed something up.
-
Would downgrading the BIOS to 005 be a stupid thing to do just to get Lightroom working?
-
So I just downgraded to bios 008 and installed 169.09 drivers... no improvement whatsoever
-
1.4.1 works perfect and very fast for me.
Will try 2.0 later to. -
Sorry, don't have any suggestions other than your problems being due to using the beta version?
As with Lifestream, I am very happy with the performance of lightroom on my 6625, and I only work with quite large raw files..... -
What about post some figures about your temperature? Just to make sure everything is working within usual conditions first?
http://cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
Then maybe take a look the fragmentation state of your hdd, I mean this software does sound somewhat I/O intensive! -
I already tried 1.4.1, same problems with that version. I'll defragment my hard disk now but I already did that like a month ago...
My temperatures seem ok, I'm using rmclock to monitor them... -
A month ago is quite long ago especially if you have installed/deleted many programs/files since then
-
OK, I formatted my entire hard disk this morning using O&O defrag (I used the option defrag to improve acces times) and the performance is still the same...
-
Hm, can you try and run GPU-Z and report your clock frequency?
While running lightroom, and while idling so there's some comparison.
edit:
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc37e51?14
it seems it's running out from SQLite?
When you compared with "lighting" fast performance from an older notebook, do both have the exact same content/settings?
someone else mentioned some more tips within that page..

mngm: I use Lightroom extensively, and when using on the 6625wd I did
have a fairly low speed experience. I don't believe it was in my case the
laptop that was the issue but rather, the size of my library (6000+ photos)
and the fact they were all 12mb+ raw files. I get similar speeds using
the same library on my new apple which has roughly the same specs as
the 6625wd.
I'd try the following:
1. Rebuild the catalog
2. Perhaps divide up your photographs into smaller catalogs
These two things worked for me...
Luck!
Christopher -
I already tried that ChristopherGrant! With only 70 photos it's still very slow...
Yesterday I formatted my laptop and installed windows xp pro sp2 and installed all original drivers. I then installed lightroom before installing anything else and the performance is still exactly the same!
-
It does sound lite it's your LR build that's screwed up.
Did you monitor the temp? Use Everest to monitor your different temperatures in the laptop.
Have you tried different versions of LR? -
I tried 1.3, 1.4.1 and the 2.0 beta... My temperatures are all normal.
It seems like this laptop just isn't powerful enough, nothing that I do has any effect. But that can't be because it works better on my sisters laptop wich is lower spec. -
Are you installing a standard version of windows XP or did you play with it using nlite or some other program?
-
Completely standard and legal version of windows xp.
-
Still no solution on this one?
I have tried a lot since I got back from Italy, but no luck so far.. -
I tried everything and nothing helped... It has to be some hardware-related issue but then it is strange that other programs/games are not affected.
