Actually can anyone at Zepto tell us when we can see a new BIOS?

This reminds me of a scene of the Simpsons where Lisa and Bart are sitting in the back of the car asking "are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet?" ;)

which is totally legitimate. I also ask myself this question a lot of times (the BIOS-question of course. I know, we won't be "there yet" soon...)

Hehehehe, I remember that one too, classic. That image will now be
stuck in my head whenever I hear someone talking/writing about the
    bios!

This situation is a little different: One usually gets to a journey's destination eventually. However, the BIOS fixing process could never reach its destination. I fear that the BIOS team is already concentrating on the BIOS for the next generation of hardware when, in reality, it needs full time concentration to figure out where the existing BIOS goes wrong.

Unfortunately I share that same horrible dark feeling that Zepto will resort to quiet diplomacy on us 6xxx series owners and we probably won't see a bios that does what it should on ANY other machine :( Why are they still selling this series??

Well Zepto are already on my list of unfortunate mistakes that I've had the pleasure of making and there isn't much that would change that except maybe a total refund. But if they did not even have the decency of giving Christopher a brand new machine, what's the chances of a refund for any of us?

Seems Rock tried that approach with 665 and 670 series refusing to admit problems with poor workmanship at various stages, then introduced that weird notebook with tiny extra lcd on outside of the lid that Microsoft used at Vista launch year and half ago oh and the 210 as well.
Rock extolled virtues of 770 series 6 months before one shipped then when they did ship they sported orange trim instead of silver and stupid white X on touchpad. I imagine their customers are very happy as of 11am today with no computers, no warranties delivery to 1 year and/or seized laptops sent in for repair.
They had tried to move into business sector too with return to base repair - bit of joke when HP or Dell do onsite for same price.
DAP Technologies Canada do straight swap for their range of rugged handhelds.

Hello? Anybody home? Guess not

Looks like I'll just have to go back home feeling left out in the cold again... :(

    @stutter, with Z15N015:
    1. The "phantom" CDROM issue - can't use Acronis OS Selector to install OSes the way I like until this is solved.
    2. Latency still way too high for any real audio work.
    3. Intermittent total system lockups when watching video streams after a an hour or so.
    4. Fan algorithm absolutely horrific - this is just annoying as sometimes it stays on full until a standby/resume cycle. Or goes completely nuts switching on/off every few seconds while crunching data! An acceptable system would turn the fan on when the temp rises above the high trip point, then when the temp goes below the low trip point it needs to stay on for a set time and not instantly switch off like it's doing now. The whole thing seems quite random, which makes me believe that a person with no real experience wrote the fan control. Z15N012 had a fairly ok algorithm. Can we have that fan algorithm (Z15N012) in the new bios please??

I'm safe when not doing any heavy audio/video. No restarts or stutter plus gaming is fine (when I find the time these days ;) ). That's why I'm not selling it, as for development work it has been stable which is my income.

If the machine starts to throw fits during my normal day work, well then I'll be forced to buy something new asap ala Christopher...

The fan problem is very similar to what I had with my 6024W when I received it in July 07 (sometimes run at full speed blowing cold air). It nearly went back because of that. The problem was fixed in the later 6x24W BIOSes. I'm surprised that it has come back.

    hmm, forgot about that question.
    - Haven't come across the phantom cdrom issue
    - Also would prefer lower latency, although it is much improved over the 012 BIOS I was running
    - Yeah, the fan is a big step back, and hard to understand. I was pretty happy with the fan control in 012.

Do you experience any failed restarts? Not that I think thats necessarily a BIOS issue, just wondering?

@stutter, no failed restarts, restarts or shutdown, just total system freezes when doing heavy video streaming (watching/editing).

The "phantom" CDROM issue only affects the 6625 I think. The one where you have to set the channel=NONE to get the OS to see the drive.

I also had 2 or 3 freezes in combination with watching Videos. But these only occured when:

    - running on battery
    - using VLC

It didn't occur with Windows Media Player (on battery) yet. So I think it may have something to do with the way VLC (or the associated codecs) decodes videos and maybe the power management of Vista or the BIOS.

Have you guys tried vista 64-bit SP1? works much better for me... no freeezing or restarts. I can have the computer on for several days and no problems at all! :)

I run both Vista-64 and XP (and linux) here all the time. Mostly XP, but trying to get used to Vista which runs like an ugly, slow cow compared to XP, but sometimes I need the whole 4 gigs for work. And yes Vista-64-SP1 restarts just like XP without warning and no messages in the event log either.

In the last two weeks, 2 restarts in XP and 1 in Vista64SP1.

so, if there are people in this thread awaiting a new BIOS version, let's see if the feature requests for it are the same across the board?

    - improved fan control (vers. 012 would be acceptable to me , and is pre-existing).
    - improved DPC latency.

there are other issues I have, but I couldn't say for sure they are BIOS related, so I'm leaving them out.

I've given up waiting and just making do with what I have now. The DPC is "ok" in 015, just the odd phantom restart is a real problem. Was running 011 for a while, but couldn't stand the DPC so back to 015 at the moment... and thanks Zepto for looking after our interests :(
