    Hey guys,

I have a little problem with my 6625WD. The other day I tried to boot it but the screen stayed black. Everything boots fine, I can hear the Vista logon jingle and when I type my password it logs in fine, and I can use the Narrator to navigate to the Shutdown option in the Start menu. There is just simply no screen activity, not even at the BIOS bootup sequence. And I can't output to an external screen either. So I guess something is up with the GPU or the mobo?

I emailed Zepto UK customer service two weeks ago about repairs, and a week ago they emailed saying it's really busy so it might take longer to proces my request. Still haven't heard back... I really need this laptop working again soon, I need it for my studies.

    Any thoughts?

Presuming you get the Zepto BIOS splash screen. Try booting into safe mode (press and hold f8 whilst booting). This will remove the possibility of a GPU failure. If you still get nothing on the screen then the only option really is to return it to Zepto for repair.

Ok at least that's another thing I can mark off then. Yeah booting in safe mode doesn't work, nor does using a Windows or even Linux boot CD. I swapped RAM modules, battery, and as mentioned the HDD is still fine, so I guess it's a mobo failure then?

or a cable problem. Were you moving it around before it happened?

No, it was on my desk when I shut it down the evening before, and it was not moved between then and the 'fatal' boot the next morning.

    Hi..

I've tried to boot my zepto 6625wd this morning and i think i have the same problem as you. Windows seems to boot normal, I hear the normal logon sounds and so on. But the screen is dead. No boot screen, nothing. just black.

How did you resolve your problem? Did zepto repair it without any problems?

I'm suspecting the Graphic problem...like the "old" bug of nvidia 8 and 9 series...
See around about this bug, might u just need to replace the Graphic nor the Board...

    Thanks

I am still in the process of actually getting through to Zepto tech support, but I will let you know when/if they eventually fix it.

I've been sent from NL to UK to SE and back to NL, so I pray I can finally get a hold of someone so I can find out where to send my laptop, because I am getting so sick and tired of this. It's been laying around dead for nearly two months now, and I really need it back.

I love their laptops but their tech support is arse.

This doesn't sound very optimistic. Well I've contacted Zepto and sent it to Denmark on Thursday last week, like they told me to.
And it's still there afaik. So we'll see what happens next. Hopefully they are quicker with mine. Because I need my laptop really bad at the moment. :/

You just need to go through the live chat. When that came on, they arranged my RMA in one day. And with that i mean: i went tot the live chat at 3pm and ups was in front of my door at 5pm. The repair itself took alot longer, but atleast my laptop was in their hands at that time.

Yeah I also used the live chat. Worked quiet fast. Next day ups was standing on my porch to take the laptop :).

Yeah I finally got through to the live chat after waiting in the queue from 11:00 to 16:00. They sent me the service form and marked my RMA as high priority. So now I have to package it up and figure out what UPS needs in order not to incinerate my package on the spot. A copy of said service form, a copy of the original invoice, and on the outside the adress with the RMA number and that UPS sticker is all?

I didn't have much choice did I? :) And there were only 5 others before me...I worked in the meantime though, it's not like I stared at the queue for 5 hours.

Well, I got word back today from the techies - after living in fear for a week because my RMA status said "repair error" (I was afraid this might have been because I removed the HDD to prevent data loss during shipping).

    But guess what:
"Dear customer, we have found a solution for your problem. It involves giving you a new pc."

They're giving me a Nox A15. With 2 year warranty. For free.

Way to make me a satisfied customer again guys! :)

Interestingly I got the same mail from zepto today.
I will also get a new Nox A15. But is this one any good?
I'm rather picky with my laptops. So... are there any known troubles with this model?

This very same thing happened to my laptop too, although just over a year after I got it. Screen was working one second, I closed it over, and it was dead when I next opened it. And the computer is fine aside from that, I logged on and played music using shortcuts and all.

Do you reckon there'd be a problem if I kept my HD or put in a blank one if I sent it off? I kind of want to keep my data :s

Yep I removed my HDD too, was no problem.
I only hope I can slip it into the Nox because I really don't feel like installing my whole array of applications and codecs again.

    hey guys !

i'm sorry to dig this topic up again, but my zepto 6625wd just did the very same thing to me.

the zepto never had any heat issues, i often monitored it during high load and 3d applications. recently one evening i was running on battery and it got empty and hibernated. the next day i turned it on the screen stayed black, but, just like the others in this thread, i could verify that the OS was booting correctly. i remembered that in very rare situations the brightness of the screen used to flicker if i changed the angle of the lid.
having a background in electronics and computer science my evaluation of the situation led me believe that it could only be some contact issue. because i had bad experience with zepto tech support in the past, i did not want to go through it again, and i need the zepto quite urgently so i thought i'll just check and replug the cables myself.
well . . . i opened it (wasn't that easy with all the hidden screws) checked everything i could find, but everything looks just fine in there.

although i have absolutely no reasonable explanation how and why this could happen (over night, without any signs of malfunction before !?!), i now have to suspect the graphics card (8600M GT) of beeing the evildoer.

but before i go out and try to find a new mobile graphics card that fits in my zepto i would like to be sure that it will solve the problem.
i could need hints on how to further nail down the source of the "black screen". to those who had the problem solved by zepto (or got a new laptop): did zepto say anything about what was wrong ?
it seems to me that this is a manufacturing error ?

Probably. The 8600M's are know to be faulty and defect:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=271289

My thread when my screen just stayed black one day:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=350534

There are lots more of those threads, and many articles about it. Just search for defective nvidia chip 8600m and you'll get a lot of info.

I haven't had any more info from Zepto (they said it would take 15 working days, now I think it has been 11 since they got it, so I'm not worried yet ;) ). As soon as I get an answer, I will let you know what it is.

thanks a lot for the info deepthought !
i obviously used the wrong keywords for my search. i read the sticky but it says that the 8600 has a lower failure rate than the other series, so i wasn't sure if this is what happened to me. i'm pretty sure now :)

so the explanation would be, something broke while the gpu was cooling down to normal temperature. sounds reasonable, yet very frustrating, because this means that a new 8600M will probably bring me back in this situation next year.
the (supposed to be) good graphics card was the main reason why i bought this zepto and now it shall be my demise.

anyway, ill wait for your final report before i decide what to do, and in the meantime i will read all i can find about this phenomenon.

I don't know where you come from, but I think that in the EU you should get your computer fixed for free if it's a manufacturing problem, as soon as you report it in "resonable time" (I'm not totally sure about this, but that's how it works in Sweden). At least that's what I'm hoping for. Then, as the next step, you'll have to define what you mean by having the computer "fixed" - IMHO replacing a defective chip with one that's got the exact same flaw is not a fix, so you could probably try to get a new computer.

But I'll let you know as soon as I get more info on my case. Hopefully they will look into it this week, or at least next week.

So, update from me. Zepto had contacted me about 1 1/2 months ago and promised me a new one in calendar week 11. Well.. nothing happend since. And its getting a bit.. well.. annoying.
It's been 2 months now since i sent it in.. I contacted Zepto.dk directly last week. no answer. So i tried it again with the german support. Immediate reply. They are going to forward the problem. We'll see what will happen.

Received my Nox last week, at the start of week 12 (they estimated 10/11). Set it up and it's been working beautifully since.

Very nice laptop, I dig all the improvements. Would have been nice to be able to configure the fan speeds though, it's super-silent except for a sudden burst of air about every fifteen minutes. I don't particularly care, but during class it can be quite annoying, especially if I'm just doing word processing.

And now I can finally play GTA IV ;D

After a few tries to contact them, without any real result, except them promising to get in touch soon. They finally gave me some answers too. My new Nox will be shipped today. But it's a good thing I asked a few questions, because they wanted to send me a 2ghz processor and a 5400rpm hdd instead of my original 2.4 ghz and 7200rpm hdd. So they supposedly corrected their error and I should get the right processor and hdd in my nox. We'll see when it arrives.
