this has been working for a total of about a minute, so it is clearly to early to tell, but I really think I might have sorted it out.
On XP sp3 (no difference from sp2 in DPC terms, but xp usually scores better than Vista)
Running BIOS 015.
Using DPC latency checker
I had tried going through the Device Manager checking/disabling things in the past, to remove my latency. First time I tried I had a go at all the usual suspects, no luck.
From this I can state that the components that seemed to affect the baseline DPC latency on my 6625 are wireless network card, esata express card, communications port, and I think the firewire port. I also have modem, ethernet, and assorted bluetooth serial ports disabled by default, so I can't say what they do for it (but they are common offenders).
Each of those contributes a little - c.100 us - nothing to worry about.
However, I get a regular spike - c. 1000us/1ms, which occurs about every 5ms.
I thought it was something to do with ACPI.
Turns out, disabling the battery solves the problem.
Try it.
So, why do I need a "Microsoft ACPI-compliant Control Method Battery" enabled in Device Manager? Can I leave it disabled?

I can confirm that when trying this my latency chart is identical to the one above, even though I am running Vista x64 - Nice find!!
-
you can lower it by disabling the various culprits described above, which provide an increase to the base level seen above... might test that tonight and see how low it goes.
-
Excellent! This works for me under XP SP3. Will try it under Vista later and try get something similar for Ubuntu...
That driver is used to communicate with the battery, so windows knows the current charge, time left, etc - not really vital for system stability when plugged in AFAIK.
Thanks Stutter! -
glad it worked for you since I remember you were unhappy about this issue. If you can remember anyone else with similar problems then point them this way.
If everyone who tries this could post success/failure, I'd appreciate it; if I know that this works reliably for all I will pm René - perhaps once Zepto know the cause of the dpc problem , they might be more able to do something about it on the BIOS end (perhaps alongside the 012 fan control) -
doesnt works for 6x24 under vista (just to add this)
-
s'a shame. Does the 6x24 have latency problems?
-
Hmm i seem to get worse results with that disabled under vista 32 :S
-
yeah, not quite as hard as the 6625WD but noticeable spikes up to 3000 and mostly yellow at 1000 to 1500
-
Benjyo, that's a shame; you running the 015 BIOS.
Anyone else on Vista? -
I'm on vista 6625WD and can report that it does reduce the DPC spikes.
BIOS 015 still (am thinking about moving back to 004 or 008) -
Hello
I'm running on Vista 32 Bits Business and disable Microsoft ACPI-compliant Control Method Battery has no effects with DPC latency checker -
so, it seems not to work on vista 32bit, works on vista 64bit, and works on XP?
I know nothing of vista.
Are there dpc latency problems on vista 32bit then?
to be clear, my latency before disabling the battery looks like this:
which shows a clear periodic dpc call of similar latency.
Tried testing the latency last night. averages 30-33 us when idleing, little variation from that range; 50-70 us when running a heavy Ableton project (lots of audio for those who don't know - the situation in which I want dpc latency not to be a problem), the occasional spike of 5-800 us.
Disabling other components did nothing really (although I previously stated I have some disabled by default, so I can't speak for those), so ignore my previous advice. The wireless network card does not seem to be a problem on my system (Intel 4965AGN, latest drivers) -
THANK GOD DUDE ..SOULIFTER...I AM GOING NUTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU...I JUST SWITCHED BACK TO MY OLD LATITIDE 520 WITH XP AND TRAKTOR SCRATCH AND THERE ARE NO DROP OUTS OR POS ETC...DID EVERYTHING YOU SAID AND OTHERS SUGGESTED.... NO DICE YET.... HAVE A TICKET IN WITH vANGELIS AT NATIVE INSTRUMENTS. MY STUDIO 1735 AND AUDIO 8 DONT LIKE EACH OTHER ,,,,BUT I FEEL ITS A DELL ISSUE AS THE DPC CHECKER INDICATES NO MATTER WHAT I DO IT SPIKE EVERY FIVE SECONDS YES I HAVE NO MORE DROPOUTS (I SHUT MY ROUTER/AND WLAN CARD OFF) BUT I STILL GTE POP,CRAKLE ETC...IM SO FUSTRATED MAN. .... SO FOR NOW I AM USING XP ON A DELL LATITUDE AND THE DPC IS OK ONLY HITS YELLOW SOMETIMES....DUDE WE HAVE TO FIX THIS MAN PLEASE EMAIL ME BROTHER . [email protected] HOPE THIS CAN BE RESOLVED

if the crackles do not appear on XP, but do on Vista, the problem could well be your graphics card downclocking to low performance mode. Have a read here - then try using Rivatuner to force your Graphics performance to the correct state.
Alternatively, your audio interface's drivers may suck on Vista - I do not know how NI's drivers work on Vista, but I would expect them to be good, plus your high latencies suggest that could be the root.
edit: p.s. writing your email on a public forum is probably asking for spam, you might want to edit your post to remove it. -
Working On My XP 32 Bit. Thanks So Much. Its Amazing.
6625WD dpc latency solution, oh yes!
