Me again, sorry guys. A 6625WD has just arrived for me to review. First impressions are mixed. There seems to be a build quality issue with the keyboard and you get ripples on the screen if you so much as brush the screen assembly.
Good points are it has a T7700 cpu and the screen itself is WSXGA+, bright, clear, a joy to use in every way.
I won't have a chance to really get into this review until next week but hopefully this one will be up rather sooner than the 6224W. Watch this space.

Keep up the good work!

So you are happy that Zepto wanted the 6224W back but you will want to keep this one instead.

Pretty much, John, yes.
Just had to set Raven SHield to run on one core using imagecfg. Tried it and BF2 which both run maxed at native. -

I have to say, this laptop is utterly fantastic. The graphics and sound card are excellent, the screen is absolutely first rate.
-
I have to agree with you on the screen, it looks so good I want to eat it!
-
is there diffrent in sound-quality and screen-quality between the 6625 and 6224 ?? shouldn't they be the same, just that one is 15 and one 14 ??
-

You would think! But there is a vast difference. The screen on the 6625WD is in my opinion many times better than that of the 6224W.
-
Hmmmmm because off...!?
The brightness/ the contrast/ the colours/ the resolution!?
'Many times' sound a little bit too much for me, but
you've called the 6224W screen 'a little bit grainy' and
I don't share that opinion also so... Let us know why!! -
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
The 6625WD's screen is glossy which for me makes all the difference. The slightly larger size also works better for me especially for gaming. The colours are sharp, contrast is excellent, it's bright and even. Way better than the 6224W's matte offering which really just didn't do it for me. I didn't like the grainy surface and I thought it really compromised the contrast and clearness.

I am thinking of buying the 6625WD and problems with the keyboard would be a big negative. Can ZeptoUK reassure me that they have addressed this apparent issue at the assembly plant and future computers would not suffer from this problem. I would also order the computer with an internal TV tuner, but does a remote control come with this? I note that there is on-board infrared, so connecting a remote should not be too difficult.
-
There are differences of opinion regarding the keyboard. You could put in the notes that would wanted the keyboard double checked before it goes out. We currently do not stock a remote for the 6625WD, but maybe another brand of remote will work it
-
I had the 6625WD for testing (my german review at www.notebookcheck.de) and i had no problems with the build quality of the keyboard.
In fact, it was very nice to type on it. The only critical thing i had to state is the clicking noises when typing because the buttons are a bit loose.
However, typing on this keyboard was (at least to me) a pleasure. -
Ahaa thanks for the explanation!
But gaming works better on a 6625WD... Can't imagine!
Because the resolution of the 6224W is smaller (more fps) -
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
Well, fps will be about the same, as the 6224W has smaller res but the 6625WD here has a T7700 cpu. Certainy BF2 was maxed out at WSXGA+ with fps so high i couldn't even guess what it was.

When you are testing games, could you specify what quality settings you are using? You have performance and quality modes in the nvidia control panel, which one do you use? Do you use anisotropic filtering and/or anti aliasing?
As this is gaming laptop could you test some more and if possible recent games? Like Lost Planet (dx10), Dirt, STALKER, C&C, ... -
STALKER & C&C performed outstanding on my Zepto Znote 6214W!
So I don't even have to know benches of that games on a 6224W

I found that the remote for my Samsung X60 plus works OK with my 6024W. Is there anyone with access to the HP remote see if that will work with their Zepto. It's the only remote I could find on ebay. Note that the fast infrared report seems to have many different device options under its properties.
John -
Would an Xbox 360 remote work with it? Because I was under the impression that it and the standard XP MCE remote were each compatible, but I dunno about Vista or whether it would work with this IRDA port.... Anyone able to shed some light on the matter?
-
Only the power button works on my Xbox 360 remote with my 6024W so far as I can tell.
-
Do you know if it recognises the signals from the infa-red remote but just doesn't know what to do with them perhaps?
Also would a standard Media Center remote work, and would it make a difference whether it was an XP or Vista one? -
Sorry to go off on a red herring, but I am choosing a laptop for my son to go to uni with and am keen on the Znote 6625WD and will probably add 4 GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC5300 Original Zepto, but will Vista Ultimate use the full capacity as i was reading in the Forum that i need 64 Bit Vista?
-
I'm not sure. As John said, the IrDA driver has lots of different transceiver types listed that it presumably can emulate, but nothing to configure what effect a remote has on the system. I'm not very familiar with using Ir.
I did wonder about the CIR drivers from zepto, but I'm not too sure what they're actually for? -
Yes you will need 64bits OS to use the full capacity of the 4GB, otherwise its only 3gb in use...
if you have a 32 bits vista you can uppgrade to 64 bits for free at microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...a/default.mspx
The link works, I've used it and uppgraded it to 64bits ! -
Thanks - would it have to be Ultimate to upgrade or would premium do it, do you know?
-
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
For my (brief) BF2 test, everything set to high, native res with 2xAA and 2xAF and Powermizer turned off, all settings to quality instead of performance.
Recent games may be possible but I don't have a huge library of games especially not recent ones I'm afraid. -
If you bought Ultimate 32 bit you will get 64 bit Ultimate for free!
If you bought Home Premium 32 bit you will get 64 bit Home Premium for free!
So why don't buying a 64 bit OS with the laptop!?
And you don't need Ultimate for a study laptop
Home Premium is more than enough!
-
Thanks very much - cleared that one up! I expect my son to play as well as study, but also thought that the back up on Ultimate would be useful?
-
Ultimate is made for companies and so on not for normal home users,
who are playing music, playing games, making schoolwork with it
-
That's great - it will save me a lot of money. I will go for the Home Premium, then. Thanks.
-
Are there driver availability issues with 64 bit? I think there was with XP 64 bit, especially with older hardware. And the Zune didn't work with 64 bit stuff, not sure about now though.
-
I had Business edition 32bit and uppgraded to 64bits...
All the 64bits drivers you need are on the Zepto-Driver CD that you get with the computer... Dont know if they are availeble at the support-download page at zepto.. but they are on the Driver-CD..
So there are no problems with 64bits OS... im running 64bits, no problems so far.
Most things works with vista 64bits today... vist64 have better support for 32bits applications than XP64bit had.. so far no program/game problems...
So gor for the 64bits... its a must if you are using 4gb ram

I received my Zepto 6625WD about a week ago. According to Iann I have to only Zepto machine in all of Korea. When I ordered it I put Vista Home Premium 32 on it. I'm used to XP, so I'm not sure how good the machine is because the OS throws my off. Compared to my 2 year old 9200 Inspiron this notebook kicks butt, but it should. Compared to my desktop, an AMD machine (some duo core that is dirt cheap these days) running 2 gigs of Ram and I think a 512 7700 Nvidia card (the one they don't make anymore) the notebook is around the same in terms of games and speed that I can tell. I think it might be slightly faster, but to be honest I don't really touch the desktop these days. In terms of cons I agree with many others the keyboard is a little strange, I believe its a UK keyboard, so the enter button is a little further away. Give it a day and you don't notice. My wife doesn't care for it, so if you have a machine that others are going to use then you may not care for it, especially if those people aren't used to a english keyboard (if you put a US keyboard mapping on it then of course some of the keys are different from what it says). I also agree the right side of the keyboard is a little wobbly, but you hardly notice. How often do you use page up and down? You would only notice if you really spam those buttons. Finally, the notebook does run hot when playing games, but this is expected. Hell the desktop gets hot and it has lots more airflow and things cooling it. So all in all, its a good machine. If you've been reading reviews on this forum and whirlpool then add one more that says the same thing. Oh, in terms of fragility, it seems pretty stable. I wouldn't drop it or anything So unless you're stupid with it, and like to smack it around I think the machine is fairly durable.
Cheers, -
what a wonderful, short, full-packed review
