Did you change any of the BIOS settings from the defaults? Some features such as AHCI and Turbo Memory are disabled by default. If you were using those then you will need to re-enable in the BIOS setup.

No, dont have TM. Disabled the tpm support too (like I had in 004) Also, the processor seem to be running more now too, never goes to idle, like It used to.

edit, when listening to music, its around 25% all the time (both Processor and OS load). And it used to be like 5-10% only processor

Look in Task Manager to see what processes are clocking up the CPU time. Is something accessing the HDD? Maybe Vista thinks it is on a new computer and is redoing all the indexing.

Resource Monitor (button on Task Manager's Performance page) gives some interesting graphs.

hdd is almost idle, just minimal flashes randomly and Task manager doesnt really say anything, evrything is idle exept some that go to 1 or 2 and back to idle. Only RMClock, TaskManager and system is on all the time (system is like 1-4). This is so wierd

also, many this happen with delay of like 0.2 sec

Switch off RMclock. See if it has been confused by the BIOS update. There's a wipeout.reg files in the RMclock folder which resets all its settings.

If not RMclock, then I suspect something which has got confused by the BIOS change. It mght get cleared by a reboot.

Perhaps visit Microsoft and work through the list of Vista patches. It's possible that some small change in the BIOS has caused a bug to wake up and there is a large pile of fixes which aren't in the automatic updates but waiting for SP1.

Google for mfpmp.exe and you will find a lot of discussion about the way it keeps the fans running.

From a brief look it seems that updating video and audio drivers might fix the problem.

I think they stand for Fast Infra Red and Consumer Infra Red. You will find various infra red devices in Device Manager.

If you don't use infra red at all then it probably can be disabled in the BIOS. There's a few devices which still use infra red for short range communications (remote controls being one) but it has largely been superseded by Bluetooth.

    right, one problem:
Im trying to update my audio drivers, I said it needs to uninstall theprevious, clicked yes, needed reboot, clicked ok.
Then, Vista wanted to install drivers, cos no drivers was found for the hd audio. Fine, but, cant use headphones. So I uninstalled it trough device manager, and then, when I fire up the New driver, it says:
(roughly converted from finnish). So, what shall I do?? Cant get a sound out of the lappy now :(

EDIT: Ah nvm It was just that it wasn compatible with R1.76 but It seems like it will install with R1.70
EDIT2: Nope, failed that too, exactly the same way as the first one

I think the HD audio has two sets of drivers: There is a standard HD audio driver and then the Realtek driver. In XP it was necessary to first install the HDA driver, which caused confusion. I think you have hit the same problem.

Go to the top of the list in Device Manager, right click and do the "Scan for hardware changes". I hope Vista will find your audio hardware and then install the HDA driver. After that you can install the Reaktek software.

Is UAC enabled? Is there a hidden pop-up window which hasn't come to the front which wants you to click OK (I've been there a few times).

Nope, but Its solved for now by rolling back windows 2 days

btw, I think I know whats causing this, the hdd isnt buffering the tracks properly. The hdd is allmost constantly accessed, but at the skips (and flickers), its idle...

It should be the player software which uses some RAM to buffer the tracks.

    Reinstall the player software?

bump, Think I know whats causing the disturbance in the music. Its not buffering or processor not processing att the time. Got magnetic disturbance... (and no its not some device I have near). The skips and lags are occur much more less when im moving the cable around, covering it with my hands, and having one of these magnetic interferenceremovers wich you often have on the antennacable to the tv (this doesnt work THAT well because the cable isnt protected like atennacables are). Tough this isnt the solution, it still lags, but its a clue.

this is getting totally horrible, now its damn slow to even scroll down a web page with massive lag in music. The only wierd thing is that I can game completely normally without any disturbance in either sound or video . It seems like Vista is having some problems

And is Task Manager showing that your CPU utilisation is low?

Normally, something hogging the CPU would be the only way to cause poor responsiveness. Having said that, I recently started using a Bluetooth mouse on my 6024W and discovered that if I put a disc into the optical drive then the Bluetooth connection drops for little while.

well, I cant see how browsing a webpage and listening to music could stress the processor too much. And no, there isnt anything eating the processor, its around 25% Processor and 46% OS

Also, thested if using another browser would change it, but that was a no-no

Sprint, could you give this a go

Download and install CCleaner (should have this already, very good lightweight proggy)

    CCleaner

Download and install Driver Cleaner (must for installing drivers correctly).

    Driver Sweeper

Uninstall audio device, go into device manger and uninstall and select to uninstall l the drivers for it as well when asked, or go into control panel and uninstall realtek hd audio driver.

    Reboot into Safe Mode

If any prompts come up asking to install drivers, choose cancel or just select it not to look into windows update for drivers and install automatically (this will cause it to not install any drivers automatically)

Run Driver Sweeper, on the left pane double click on Realtek-Sound and Creative-Sound, this will cause them to appear in the right pane.

Click on the brush icon in driver sweeper and will erase any registry or not used files by the audio driver.

Run CCcleaner, click on analyze and then remove. Now click on the registry button in CCleaner and do the same, analyze then remove.

    Reboot into Vista

Again do the same for any prompts for installing drivers if they happen

Go to this site and select which mirror to use for the download of the latest Realtek HD audio driver which is 1.80....zepto's ftp has latest 1.76, and Realtek's site's mirrors are piss slow

    Realtek 1.80

    Install these

Download the inf update utility (updates chipset drivers)

Inf Update - Select your OS version, click on GO, click on
INF Update Utility - Zip Format, download it

    Extract files, run setup.exe

    Reboot

Hopefully it will be working again

im afraid that I never got the option to stop it installing the own drivers, and I didnt even find a icon informing about that, but when I rebooted to Vista I had some driver installed allready (not Realtek). And installing the new driver fails, even tough it now accepts the hardware wich it didnt last time...

hmm, installing new driver fails...thats odd.

did you apply the inf update

might want to read this thread, it has some solutions.....might be due to the sata drives drivers not being properly functional with vista....
    http://thevistaforums.com/lofiversion/index.php/t1966.html

    Try this before

    Control panel > Sound > Speakers/Headphones > Enhancements:

    Select "Disable all Enhancements"

    Also, could you try this

Disable your wireless card and see if problem persists, enable it again and report back on thread .... could be due to wireless card drivers

(did you install drivers for wireless card using zepto's ftp or did you not have to since vista automatically detected the hardware)

Now, to explain exactly where the error comes in:
-The blue screen with the installing window on it comes up
-It goes allmost to the end
    -Loads some components very quickly
    -It says "Installing"
    -The Realtek installation pops up
-Makes it 1/4 of the progress bar and then pops up "Installation failed"
-OK as only option and it cancels/exites the installation

you know, you can eat that last post, IT SUCCEEDED!!!

now theres just to see, if it made any diffrence...

edit1: well, it succeeded, not. I highly suspect a low-level compatibility issue, cos after the installation (reboot) it got stuck in the BIOS splash screen for over 15 mins, after I shut it down manually, Im going to test one more thing before Im shure about this, but the computer shouldnt get stuck loading some OS startup files for 15 mins (still in BIOS) just cos I install a audio driver. Just seems odd

edit2: well, now I got trough the BIOS splash, Vista fired up normally, but no Realtek...

I had this trouble once with my old old, witch wasn't a laptop but its still a longshot.

My problem then was same thing as you are experiencing, music skipping mostly when i scrolled with my mouse or tabbing thru windows.

If i remember correctly i got rid of the problem by updating the drivers to my graphics card. Why this was related to my music skipping im still unsure of.
But you could always try. If that doesent help i suggest you contact
zepto support and se what they have to say :)

yo guys, something good happened today. The Realtekdriver instaled without a problem?? I dloaded the 1.81 (!) driver from guru3d.com and it just installed . But I think that the fact that I got about 50MB of windows update has someting to do with this.

Well, any way it is, Im happy now :)
