I've just begun to have interesting problems with my 7100. The battery started going west a few months ago including the infamous remove all power and hold the power button for 30 secs or so to get it to fire up even under AC. Replaced the battery with new. Charged fine but loses it's charge over a few days when turned off. Does fire up when put on AC now.
Will be trying battery removal after full charge to see if it comes back when reinserted. It is definitely a battery discharge issue. Just wondered if anyone else has seen this issue or has any thoughts. Sounds like something in the power circuitry has gone west.
Add-on: Took battery out overnight and it was still at 100% this afternoon. Not the battery with a self discharge problem. Oh well.

Final update: There is actually something wrong with the computer but luckily it really doesn't impact much except possibly overall battery run time. A quick fix as far as I'm concerned is to just pull the battery out after shutdown. the puter doesn't care the battery stays at 100% till I'm ready to use it next time.
But it does have dire consequences for your battery if you leave it in the computer. That is, it drains the battery well past it's safety low-end cutoff threshold. That's a real quick death for a LiIon battery since no safety circuitry is active with the computer off and a defective component drawing the battery down.
At least it's not a throwaway and hopefully adds to our storebook of Averatec issues.
