Hi, as anyone tried to fit a c90s ddr3 card in there ifl90? It's mxm-II so it should physically fit, my my main concern is that Asus as somehow bios locked the card... It's not too expensive( http://www.directron.com/90c1cizahxbn0.html ) As anyone attempted something like that?

If I remember well, the problem was the heatsink design. The screw holes only fit with the C90S

    it's gddr3, not ddr3.
there are no graphics cards with ddr3 memory, only ddr2, gddr3, gddr4, gddr5 now days.

Are you sure? Because last time I checked MXM is a standard and even the screw holes have to be placed as specied by nvidia documentation. Compare those:
    HD3600 mxm-II: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/Additional/ARGm3650board_flat_E_rgb_HighRes.jpg
    C90S 8600m gt GDDR3: http://www.excaliberpc.com/582445/asus-nvidia-8600m-gt-256mb.html

They look pretty similar too me beside the fact that the radeon as a silghtly longer pcb to accommodate the 2 extra memory modules...

You can't because hp doesn't use mxm in their consumer level laptops... The C90 was heavily advertised as a barebone by Asus, and they say that buyers could easily upgrade different components, gpu included, later on when they would make them available, and thankfully they used mxm instead of some proprietary format.
Too lazy to type the g..

wow yeah it looks the same looks like it will fit to me. the screw hols are in the same places. looks like even the heatsink holes are the same.. the only issue would be the plug and if the compal would communicate with it.. not sure if anything like that could be different..

There should not be any problem size or connection wise but stuff like the vbios or the laptop bios can prevent the change....

I guess it will be a try and see situation.

What would it be the advantage versus the nVidia 8600 GT?

it would depend on what card ayle has in it now.
from 8600m gs ddr2 to 8600m gt gddr3 is a big difference espicely.(cant spell today soryry) about twice the performance. because the gt has 32 shader cpus and the gs has 16. bigger defernce in shader powerful games.
and also when you try to overclock the memory core when it comes to the gs because it is ddr2 you cant past 500 without a driver faluire.
as for the gt gddr3 because it is faster (gddr3) and many other things, it can be pushed up to 700
when it caome to the gt's ddr2 and gddr3 it would be about a 25%increse in performance

    Ok,

I have 512MB DDR2 but his card come with 256MB DDR3 only, would that matter?

Everybody on the forum get better performances from the gddr3 version than 2 even when using the same general configuration... And beside the macbook pro I have not heard of any manufacturer using the 512 gddr3 variant...

I found that on the Asustek forum, if this is true I might have to be a little more patient, and that would also explain why every store is sold out. There is a new card coming ^^.

This would matter in higher cards like 8800. In 8600 GT 256 is enough, cause you need more RAM in higher res for which 8600 is too slow.

Ok, so is not like windows, which says, "there is this x amount of RAM, good, I will use it all :D

It's not that it won't use it all, it's just that that extra memory is so slow that the gpu is wasting cycles while waiting for data to get fed to him, meaning that it doesn't increase performances.

This might be a light thread necromancing but...
HOLY FLYING BABOONS! I failed to find a 8600m gt gddr3 but I did find this.
An HD3650! Do you think it might work on the ifl91? As far as I know it's not BIOS locked. And the 3650 is definetely better than what I'm currently rocking.

It is a great find Ayle. But I've had emailed mxm-upgrade.com why I couldn't perform VGA bios flash on ifl90 and they suggested it might well be compal's propriety design as VGA bios information is stored in system bios. You can direct your question in here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=67 or email mxm-upgrade.com [email protected] for probably better support.

I am not sure about ifl91 compatability for a video card upgrade.

Anything you do, best of luck.

EDIT: I've found a bit piece of information that ifl91 might not support mxm upgrade.
