I've got an Averatec 3200 series that I have had for over three years. It has performed flawlessy and just today I noticed that the fan was not going into high speed. After 30 min or so, it shut down. That's the first time that's ever happened to me. I pulled the fan out and cleaned it (it was really dirty), then reassembled it and ran it again. So far (30 min) it's still running OK, but it is incredibly hot back by the fan and it's not going into high speed at all although it seems to run at normal speed just fine. Yesterday it spent a lot of time in high speed fan and the noise drives me nuts, but it's better than shutting down without warning. Any ideas why it's not going into high speed? What is a fan toggle and how is that accomplished?
    Thanks,
    Carl

    Check out this thread: forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=306988

Run SpeedFan or HWMonitor and get some temperature measurements.

Did the heatsink come off the processor when cleaning out the fan?

After the cleaning you should run Fan Learning at Advance option in Bios and don't forget apply a good thermal paste such as Artic Silver because the old thermal pad should be replaced by a new one.
If use thermal paste, you should throw away the old thermal pad.

There is a right way and a wrong way to apply thermal paste. Search this forum for several good explanations.
