1. How exactly do I connect it to my speakers? I was expecting it to have just normal 3.5mm outputs but it doesn't. What cable do I need and what would be the best way to hook the laptop up to just normal computer speakers (5.1)?
2. I'm using vista premium and there is a icon in the taskbar that shows a connect device (so I can safely remove hardware, you know), anyway, the hardware that it allows me to remove is my DVDRW drive. This isn't right is it? Do I need to install a new firmware or something?
3. What would be the best way to connect it up to an oldish TV (one that doesnt have VGA or HDMI but just normal video inputs), do I need some sort of VGA>Video out adaptor or something?
Cheers

1. sorry I am not big on audio cables. All I know is that the laptop has a audio out where I plug my headset in. not much help to you sorry.
2. This is not a problem and perfectly normal.
3. It has a S-Vid (TV-out) port. You can use that if your TV has an S-vid in port. -
Thanks for the reply wave.
2. So what will happen if I safely remove the drive, will that be bad? How would I connect it up again? Haha, sorry as you can tell I'm a bit of a noob.
3. Once again I feel stupid for asking but where is this port? The only ports I can see that resemble video cables are the headphone out and the one next to it that looks like mic in to me. -
I have a 6214W and this is the S-Video Port:

1. It can be used for headphones or 5.1 via an optical cable. You will need a decoder/amp to turn the digital signal into 5.1 channel sound. I use a Creative DDTS-100 Decoder as i have serveral sound sources and one set of speakers. -
Normally the headphone out doubles up as an audio line out, so if you get a 3.5 mm cable with those jacks at both ends you shouldnt have a problem connecting it to audio equipment, sometimes you may need to use that cable which as a 3.5mm jack at one end and the red and white jacks at the other end.
The hard drive thing is normal, if you remove it i assume it will reappear if you restart windows or in your current windows session, similar to plug and play usb devices, although i am not 100% on this.
As for your tv, use the tv out port which should be at the back of the 6224w.
Do those tv outs carry sound as well or picture only? Do they work on both pal and ntsc tvs? -
2. If you would remove the DVDRW through the "remove attached devices" you need only to restart to get it back, however it will be "lost" to the computer until the time you do so.
3.All you need is a scart to s-video converter and a S-video cable to connect the scart and computer. You than configure your TV settings through the screen properties.
(right-click on the desktop, choose the tab concerning the resolution of the screen and there you choose advanced.)
