This is the first time I use Vista (32), so I don't know if this is related to the Hardware or Windows.

When I hibernate the notebook, I notice that there is still power on the usb ports. And if I plug-out the mouse, the notbook wakes up, which is a bit annoying if I forgot to plug it out before going to hibernation.

Is there a way to turn it off and... doesn't this mean the notebook is consuming power even in hibernation?

And yes, I did not confuse standby with hibernation, I really mean hibernation.
, were everything is written from memory to disk and (like I know it) the computer is turned completely OFF.

Even if you shut it down completely, there will still be power in the usb port...
    Not sure about the rest

I think the power to the USB ports only remains on when the computer is still connected to the mains. The USB power should go off if you pull out the mains adaptor.

I noticed the same feature on my 6024W. It's actually quite useful if you have other devices which charge via USB. You can charge them overnight even if the computer is off.

I pulled the the power plug and the harddrive still had power (I have a USB harddisk case with a harddrive in it) and the lights were still glowing blue.

My old Dell notebook (about 3-4 years old) also shut down all USB power when going into hibernation.

Puzzled  Perhaps Zepto support staff can confirm which notebooks supply power to USB when turned off on (i) mains and (ii) battery.

Going back to the original problem about unplugging a USB mouse and waking the computer up, I suggest you go into Device Manager and work down the list of devices. Look at their properties and, for any which have power management options, make sure that "Allow this device to wake up the computer" is disabled.

There is also probably an option somewhere under USB to allow the computer to turn off the device to save power.

I think there would be an option in BIOS something like Always on USB which enables the USB port in low powered state (standby, hibernate on battery.)

I have this on my thinkpad.

    ...but what REALLY annoying is:

    I hibernate the computer, okay.
But then, when I unplug the mouse or harddisk, the whole thing boots up again and I have to interrupt it with a "hard-off", because, hell, I want to go home and not wait a whole restart-hibernation cycle before I can finally put the notebook in my bag.

I think this is really stupid and I don't know who would ever benefit from that behaviour.

This problem is a BIOS related problem and your not the only one. Allways when I hibernate and plug out any USB device the system resumes wich is really annoying (you have to unplug while the comp is still in windows or it will resume).
Havent tested to somehow disable the usb power when hibernated even if I really could use it (as I dont have any devices charging).

I also wonder what effect this behaviour has to the battery (life), because it will be constantly charged and discharged (just a very little bit) on a daily basis. And what will happen if the battery discharges completely if the computer is left "off" for a longer while. I hope that doesn't reduce battery life in any way.
Otherwise, it's also a bad idea to not use the battery at all either as I have read before.

...but why does it behave this way:

    Computer in hibernation.
    - I plug the mouse OUT, computer wakes up
    - I plug the mouse IN, NOTHING happens
    - Mouse plugged in, I move the mouse or press a key, NOTHING happens

So the computer only wakes up from hibernation when I PLUG OUT USB devices. Tested it with a freshly hibernated notebook, it does not wake up if you plug the mouse in or move it then.
Who needs this?! And how can it be changed?

Ah thanks. Is there a list of known bugs like this somewhere?

I actually thought there may be some twisted "businessmen" who desperately need such a feature because of reasons anyone can hardly imagine ;)

Did you check the power properties of the USB hubs in Device Manager? Make sure (i) Allow this device to wake up the computer is not selected; and (ii) Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is selected.

There may be another way to get at the same settings through Vista's advanced power management options.

well, you can set the usb roots to be disabled by windows, this should effect the "normal" usbs, too
but haven't testedt it and i'm not quiet sure whether this effects the usb in suspend mode in any way at all

On the two computers I have to hand (Samsung X60 plus and Sony G11) the option for the USB root hubs to wake up the computer is greyed out. What is the status of this option in the Zepto 6xxx series?

I'm also wondering whether the problem computer is properly hibernating or has gone into that state called "hybrid sleep" which was introduced with Vista. Make sure the power options (advanced settings, sleep) have Hybrid sleep set to off.
