Here's one I use on my Averatec 7100. Should work on any computer.

It's a utility called Speedfan. It is free and works great because it gives you all the internal temperatures AND includes the S.M.A.R.T harddisk health monitor.

You can get it here. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php.

It's really fun to watch your CPU temp when you're doing heavy compute tasks. Really climbs. Also, gives you safety margins of what it shouldn't exceed.

    Have fun.

Here is another excellent freeware applet:
    http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

It works better on my Vista based 2300 series (actually an Everex ST5340 replacement). Best of all, no installation is required. The only file on your system is the small executable.

    Hi Jim,

Just tried the package you use. It didn't find one additonal temperature monitor that Speedfan did. Plus, I really like the combo of SMART data being logged as well. It also looks at memory and gives you a refresh speed as well as size discovered. Anyway, I'm sure it's dependant on what he's programmed for the chips. Just wanted to feedback what I found with the package.

Don't know if you've tried Speedfan but I'd appreciate you looking at it and let us know what you think.

I was suitably impressed with it's content.

    Rick,
I have latest Speedfan installed on a 2300 series, but under Vista, the user interface is mostly blank. Honestly, the older version worked better in Vista - go figure.

Speedfan only sees the average temp of my dual CPU cores, and doesn't see the GPU temp at all. It also has no idea how to detect and communicate with my SATA hard drive, and gives little information about RAM that I don't already know.

This isn't to knock Speedfan - I also have it on a XP based tower and it's a nice utility.

The same source as the hardware monitor, also offers another free tool called CPU-Z. This tool tells me in more detail what my CPU is doing.

The old forum dealt with this problem on the 3200 series. It takes modifying the acpi/dsdt table to get the cpu temperature to register. It does not register in any of the programs mentioned without the modified dsdt table.

Here's a link describing the process for the 3225.

Thanks for the tip - all the utilities mentioned so far do not find any temps on the AV3250 HX. I clicked your link but I have no idea what that article says, I could not even make a guess where to start following that article. Is that for windows XP ? Anyway, thanks for the tip

    Hey Jim,

Kinda what I figured. There are such a wealth of different chips, and with Vista in the mix, I'm sure all you can do is try the various iterations. I guess I'm lucky that Speedfan does work so well with my unit and op/sys - XP.

    Regards,

    Rick

Check the reply on the unofficial averatec site. I replied to your question there and a member that is the expert on this responded. His name is newhren. He gave some additional info and links.

There is a problem in the dsdt table with the 3200 series. It does not allow the temp to be reported. The dsdt table has to be modified to enable the temperature reporting. Unless that is done, no program will report the temp.

Newhren will help point you in the right direction but he expects you to do the reading and figure out how to do it yourself.

I got stuck and couldn't figure it out.
