Has anyone done and benchmark or performace test with the AV6130H1-10?
I've been playing counterstrike 1.6 on this machine and noticed I havent been getting the performance that I think I should be getting. I've been getting framerates of about 72fps when I just stand there, but once I start to run and when there's moderate action on the screen, my frame drops down to about 17fps and sometimes below 10fps!!! I've tried using the latest omega video drivers(www.omegadrivers.net) and they helped a little although not much. I'm expecting this system to not drop below 30fps since cs1.6 should not be that intensive for this machine. I just wanna know if anyone else is experiencing this low performance or if anyone knows how to fix it, or if this is normal?

BTW: i've tried a matlab 7.0 benchmark test and I rated worst then a pentium4 2Ghz, when this machine is actually a 3.0Ghz.

    see my topic http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7087

the problem is that once you are on battery battery, the cpu throttles a bit, sometimes as much as 50% (on-demand clock modulation). This is not speedstep, so your cpu will still report as being 3ghz. This is by design and helps save battery power. But the problem is, sometimes when you switch back to AC power, this behavior continues. I've had this happen to me about 50% of the times, the easy fix I've found was to reboot or hibernate (sleep doesn't work), and make sure you reboot or hibernate when you switch back to ac power when you have worked in battery mode.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the quick reply. It helped.

BTW, does anyone know teh manufacturer or teh motherboard for this laptop and the manufacturer of internal wireless card for it. I use to get disconnected every 5-10 mins but now that i'm using this ralink drivers everythign seems to be fine. I just wanna make sure i'm using the correct drivers for the card so i'm getting the best performance.
    Thanks.

Okay I tried the Uniwill bios on the averatec unit we had in store, and it was NOT a succes:

The bios flashed with no problem, did not offer to make a backup of the old one. Okay

The machine rebooted, the white averatec logo has been replaced by a pentium 4 logo, okay that's good one problem fixed :D

In the bios, it was mostly the same, a few new options (disable beep on boot-up) more choices for boot-up sequence... did not notice anything else different.

Windows booted, but as soon as it reached the desktop, the screen became all funny with different colors, but we could still read a bit of what was going on. Duh I said. I double-checked I flashed with the right bios with the right video card, everything was fine. Then I noticed the display was ok at resolutions of 640x480 or less. So I tried the battery/power saving problem in VGA mode, the laptop is still running slower on battery, but it doesn't seem to stay "stuck" anymore on that power saving scheme when it's back on AC power. Besides that, no changes. At that time it was the 1.08 BIOS, I tried the oldest bios I could find, the 1.03, nothing different, still cannot read a thing in normal resolutions. Windows couldn't recognize the laptop, asked for re-activation, something I couldn't do. I tried to restore the laptop, maybe it was a video driver issue ? No go, the recovery CD refused to install "only for averatec machines" ... duh of course

What could I do ? I tried to find an utility to write the image of the bios to a file, so I could take another averatec and save his bios, since I had no backups. I couldn't find one. I tried *last hope* a f82744.exe /? for hope to have an option to save the bios to a file, and there was !! So I saved the bios from another lap I had on hand, and flashed it back to the original BIOS. Everything worked fine

The BIOS I used is located at http://www.uniwill.com/UserDownload/N258SA0/N258SA0.htm and is for Uniwill 258SA0, same specs than the 6130H/HS.

Again, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH WITH THIS BIOS, IT DOES NOT WORK WELL.
