Lately, I have heard a lot of good things about the MP30. Even CNET who hated almost every Sharp (RD3D, AL27, and more) However, now they keep raving about the MP30. So, lately I have become interested into the ultraportables and have made the MP30 a choice on my list. Hoever, does anyone have one of these? What are some of the flaws? And finally, can the Transmetta Efficeon processor really-perform like a Pentium-M?

I have an AL 27 and recently bought my daughter an MP 30. Both are very nice. If there is a negative, it is battery life. Read the reviews of the MP 30 and the AL 27 for more information about these.

To comment on the processor performance, I've read some tech reviews (with some fairly detailed benchmark tests) which concluded that Efficeon's performance is about 80% of that of desktop Pentium 4 when both run in the same MHz. And from a seperate review comparing Pentium-M with desktop Pentium 4, the conversion factor is somewhere around 1.85x -- that is, a Pentium-M 1.0MHz can rival a desktop Pentium 4 1.85MHz.

So a simple answer to your question whether a Efficeon can perform like a Pentium-M (at the same MHz) is: NOT EVEN CLOSE!
