After leaving my laptop on without being plugged in, the battery emptied and the laptop turned itself to sleep mode and then eventually just lost power altogether. It now wont turn back on, with or without the cable. When I press the power button I get the power light and then a little sound and it simply just goes off. I've tried with the cable, without the cable and I've even tried taking out the battery and leaving the mains plug in but it simply will not stay on.

    HELP!!!!

    That's thoroughly frustrating.

A badly seated or dead RAM module can also cause a computer to behave as you describe. I would first remove / replace the RAM. If there are two modules then try each separately. If you can borrow a suitable module, try it.

Is the battery recharging when the power is connected but the computer is off. If so, then we now the power system is OK. If the battery is not recharging then maybe there is a problem with either the PSU or the power board in the notebook.

Another possibility is, without battery or mains connected, hold down the power button for a minute to try to discharge any remaining power.
