I'm just curious, where abouts is the air drawn in from mostly? Some of the vents on the bottom appear almost cosmetic.

I understand there to be vents under the keyboard, micro holes or something
    to that effect.

    Don't quote me though! :)

If the fan is running on full speed, try holding your hand above the QWERTY keys, you can feel that air is being sucked in from there. I don't know if the holes beneath the laptop also suck in air, but I have my laptop standing in an angle and I have noticed the laptop is a bit cooler when playing a game then.

The air for the fan is going trough the keyboard, all of it. Reason why it goes a bit cooler when its angled is that the hot air beneath gets circulated easyer than if its straight. Thats why lego can be useful even after youv stopt playing with them :D
