Looking for a reasonably priced Notebook that can perform well with games such as WarCraft III and FarCry. This on goes for about $1100. I could afford up to $1400. Is there anyting out there that fit the bill?

The 6130 reviews seem to imply it can handle demanding games well but are not convincing. Deficiencies seem to be the following: HD is slow (4200 RPM), battery life is very short and battery is disruptive to processor speed, instability of graphics display, 64M graphics card is good but 128M would be better.

    Thanks.

i've played an fairly graphic intense game completely off the hard drive, and it kept up fine. it got really friggen hot, but was fine. load times were a little long though.
Yes batt life is short, but if you are gaming lots, you should be near a plug anyway (however, if you need extended time, it still is really poor). The disuption to the processor speed is minimal. if it does reduce speed (it doesn't always throttle), it doesn't reduce much, only a couple hundred hz. I haven't found the graphics to be instable, i put on the omega drivers and it works great (LCD, VGA and svid). granted i haven't played the lastest like HL2 or the likes.

Basically my ranting is to show that the 6130HS isn't bad. its a really good desktop replacement (key).

I agree with random, I'ved played Kotor 2 and generals and they've ran pretty good. If you want to play games perfectly on a computer get a desktop with a very fast graphics card and fast processor with loads of ram.
I think this notebook is pretty fast for the price.

And i'm going to back up the rear, comfirming both Random Txx and jedisolos comments. Granted the HD load is slow, and the vid mem is 64m, and if you play off the battery your screwed for time. BUT, as a desktop replacement for say, a LAN party, you'd be sitting pretty darn good plugged in and able to keep up with the boys frag fest. The ability to easily upgrade the memory to 2 gig will easily counter ATIs 64m RAM.

Yes, there are faster books out there, but the trade comes in the form of cold hard cash. Look around, theres alot out there, but my money is on my 6130! Frag away![ :D]

Toshiba Tecra A4 falls into your price range with 64MB x600 card. Like most laptops, it comes with a 4200RPM drive, but you upgrade that at a later date.

When you buy a notebook from best buy , sams club etc the specs are as is at the store but when you buy online from hp or dell you can configure it with a faster hd, more ram and sometimes different video card. When I installed my 1 gig ram stick, it was fairly easy for me and I've noticed the difference in speed and heat. I know the HD is only running at 4200 rpm but it has a 8 mb cache memory so I think it's equivalent in speed to a 5400 rpm with only 2 mb cache memory but I could be wrong. I like this notebook and if I wanted to go traveling or trekking across the world I would spend the money on a rugged notebook like a panasonic tough book.

Check out Sager notebooks (www.pctorque.com). They have some pretty nice options.
