I was another unfaithful victim of the cruel fate of flashing the BIOS, actually I didn't want to flash it, just the programmers of WinPlash don't even give you a warning, I, by a low chance clicked it and could not stop it, but thanks to Phoenix Crisis Recovery, my laptop is back, is an emergency feature, that I'm going to detail:

(You need an USB floppy, CD or USB drives might not work)
    1) Remove battery
    2) Unplug AC power
    3) Press and hold FN + B
    4) Plug power cable in (if done correctly, the power button will flash)
    5) Press power button (if done correctly, fan will go high speed and won't stop)
    6) You will see the floppy drive light goes on and start working (only if you got a Crisis Recovery floppy)
6.1) Download Crisis Recovery from here
6.2) Once the files are on your floppy, replace BIOS.WPH with your BIOS.
    7) Let it finish (once the light is off, wait 5 mins, 10 - 15 recommended if you can)

    Notes:

    1) Only the two USB ports near the CD/DVD drive work
    2) Never use Winplash
    3) Never flash your BIOS unless theres a need to.
    4) I tried using a bootable CD, it didnt work, I think only USB FDD works.

That utility is annoying. It autolaunched on me the first time I downloaded it, although I never had a problem.

Since I used a bootable USB to flash to the newest BIOS.

I'm not sure why so many people have had problems with the bios flashing...I've done it for years via DOS and within Windows and have never had any problems.

When you say a "bootable USB", do you mean like a USB pin drive?

And since you have had so much success would you mind terrible to write a step by step instructions on how to make a bootable USB or CD and then how to flash the BIOS?

I just bought the HEL80 and it came with version 102B, but since my CPU is T7200 I need to flash it. I haven't even formated the HD yet or loaded Windows. I'd like to save the old BIOS just in case so if you could explain how to do that to it would be awesome.

Honestly, you don't need to wait anywhere NEAR 5 minutes. 20-30 seconds is fine.

Thanks. Yes I saw quite a few references to flashing the BIOS with USB and CD, but I was wondering if anyone could do a step for step instruction, like a Flash BIOS for Dummies. :)

Of course I could always Google it too. I just thought it would be cool, since many may upgrade to the new Merom, that a detailed step by step specifically for the Compal using the BIOS updates from Bizcomm, would be helpful.

Yes, once the floppy lights are off, you are good to go, but to be 100% certain waiting does not hurt.
