Okay, for anyone that is thinking of buying a hel80 and is looking at these threads, dont get the wrong idea, the hel80 is a great machine. I just like to push the limits of things and get pissed when it doesn't work lol.
Soo.
I have a dell 2007wfp 20" wide screen external monitor.
When i hook my laptop up to it, i get the dreaded wavy lines that scroll down my monitor.
Oh, but when i unplug my ac adapter..the lines go away
at first i thought it was interference between cables..but the ac line and the vga cable are on other sides..so no..
I was like, hmm...maybe its the circuitry in my room...
so i plugged in the ac adapter of my hel80 into an outlet in the next room (haha omg it reached but my laptop almost fell off my desk!![]()

)
and wouldnt you know it..
no wavy lines
so ive plugged my laptop into every socket in my room (6). and still get the wavy lines. Plug it into another room...no lines...
Im betting its my room's circuitry.
it wouldnt be using up all the juice..i mean my desktop clearly used more power and didnt have wavy lines...
intriguing to say the least.
thoughts? comments? fixes?
and no, forever plugging in my laptop to the other room is NOT an opion![]()

I have a fix, use an extension cord!
I have similar problems but audio whining instead, I use an extension cord myself. -
The real fix would be to find the short in your electrical wiring. You should have an electrician come and look at that. You may have an unattached ground, or some kind of frequency leakage, or perhaps a positive voltage on your neutral wire. It could cause damage to electronics plugged into that circuit for a long period of time.

You could try a power bar.
-
you may not have proper grounding. i would suggest trying out a surge protector/power bar as mentioned by others.
-
yea im using a surge protector
-
A surge protector only protects against surges. If your power is getting noise on it because it's grounded next to say, the coax cable, or if there's a voltage differential (+130 and +10V are still 120V total, and won't trip a surge suppressor, but not good on electronics), you can still get problems. Surge suppressors only work against transient issues, not continuous. You might consider getting a UPS, which WILL do the power scrubbing you need.

I usually find these fix those sort of problems...
