I'm about to buy a new laptop. My current PC is a Zepto (Znote 4200). I've been extremely satisfied with the machine, so Zepto was a natural place to start looking for a new one.

Based on the specifications and price, the 6625WD looks like a very good choice for me. It also has some details that really attract me.

I had almost settled for the 6625WD when I stumbled across this forum, and now I'm seriously in doubt about the machine. It seems like everyone is having trouble with this PC and that the general Zepto quality has dropped dramatically since I bought my current machine.

So - does anyone have anything positive to say about the 6625WD, or should I just start looking for something else?

I'm not a 6625WD owner but I understand the two main issues with the 6625WD are the BIOS and the cooling system (which may well related to the BIOS). However, what you see in this forum is the small minority who have problems. We never hear from the majority of purchasers who have no serious problems.

An alternative, at the moment, is the 3405W which uses, I believe, the Compal chassis which has fewer problems. The one drawback of the 3405W, at least on the Zepto UK site, is the relatively slow CPU although this is not a constraint for gaming.

I concur with John about the small segment of owners in the forum. I am the Australian distributor, and taking the 6625WD in isolation I can document one problem since we started importing them in the middle of 2007. That is one overheating problem which was fixed by cleaning, realigning the cooling pipe and reapplying thermal paste. Only other problems have been with a couple of optical drives failing which is a simple component failure. I use a 6625WD and it has never missed a beat.

I only have good experiance with my 6625, only issue is the bit stupidly designed BIOS wich has very few optimize-for-my-use options (none really) and heat issue wich was due to the grill being a dust filter :)

I'm pretty satisfied with mine. It has niggling issues, but nothing sufficiently annoying to cause me to return it for service. Some of the problems here are related to specific fields, which may not affect most users greatly (e.g. dpc latency is really only a problem for those with a real interest in sound or video). Heat issues clearly affect gaming, which the 6625 is marketed towards. I haven't experienced this (but don't play games a lot), so I don't think it's across the board.

As always, computer forums overly represent those with problems. It might be worth noting that they might also represent those able enough with computers to recognise they have a problem and search out a solution on their own (which the dpc issue seemed to represent - most people in those threads were not clueless).

Mine was great value for money spec's wise. It's not 100% reliable, but as my first laptop I can't comment on whether this is par for the course. I suspect it might be.

I suppose having found this forum you should be aware that:
    - BIOS is not great, do not buy a 6625 expecting that to be fixed.
    - some people have bad experiences with Zepto's service (cannot state how representative), and you should expect that service will take quite some time (most have stated this - I don't think this is an overstatement) ... although how this compares to other manufacturers I dunno. Perhaps consider this when you think about the warranty (or extending it).

On the other hand, mine seems physically well built - none of the problems I had feared. Fast. Great screen.

I'm not up to speed with competitors at the moment, but I assume Dell is still a direct competitor (and any Dell forum would provide evidence to make a prospective buyer equally wary)

    Yes, Ill second that.

There is allways faults in hardware, you just cant get around that. But the % that has faults is very small, so you are unlucky if you get a faulty laptop (and it occurs for EVERY manufactor, including all desktop hardware too).

Thats why these forums are a bit scary when allmost everyone on here has problems. But the ones on here are a very small part of the customers that Zepto has.
