for the compal hgl30, why is it that upgrading to one memory stick of 1024mb cost $75 while upgrading it to 2 sticks of 1024mb is $229? That is more than triple the price of one stick. It's basicly an extra stick which is why I dont understand. Thank you.

(prices U.S. dollars)It will come stock with 512mb ram.. costing ~60-75 for example.. moving to a gig only adds 512mb.. a gig stick is ~100-120... two of those are ~200-240. Any extra you pay is premium ram, or for installation and being included in your systems warranty.

run the math, it willmake more sense.. p.s. some builders like XoticPC have cheaper prices than what you quoted, unless that's canadian dollars

edit: I ran the math.. it didnt' make sense..hah.. i think you're on to somethin. USUALLY the hgl30 is offered with 512 ram..here it says 2 x 512. Who would "upgrade" to a 1 gig chip.. no gain..just a lighter wallet!?! they sell the 1 gig chips for $140 here so only the 2 gig option makes any sense at all

Yeah the ram upgrades seemed kinda steep; you can always order some from somewhere else.
But my transaction with milestonpc was flawless if you wanted to know.

Installing ram requires turning your comp off, grounding yourself, pressing the powerbutton to drain electricity after taking battery out, opening up the ram thing, and sticking it in at an angle and pushing down. Very easy, took me 2 minutes.

I think it depends on what reseller you're looking at. Not all resellers charge that much for RAM upgrades. Powernotebooks, for example, has very reasonable RAM prices.

It is not because we charge more on the upgrade, it is because we charge extremely low on the base price. In the base package, it is 2x512M, we have allot in stock, try to get rid of it, so we use a very very low cost(half price of the market price of 512M memory) when we do the package deal, if you upgrade to 1024M module, we charge the regular price of it, then you see a big price jump, same cases apply to T2400 CPU and HD in the package deal. That is why you will see we have a very aggressive package price.

If you just use our base price plus the upgrade cost of our memory to get the total, and then you go out to compare, you will find it is still a good price, this is all because we have a low base price.

That is an excellent point made by Milestone. Thanks for posting the explanation. I think that all of the resellers need to remain competitive on price, but have their own individual pricing schedules to get to that price.

For me, the savings would have to be rather significant in order for me to have to deal with multiple warranties--one on the system and then another one or two for the individual RAM sticks that I put in by myself. I'm a big fan of the comprehensive warranty.
