I just bought a 3220H1 and its an awesome machine for the price as far as i can tell... but man does it get REALLY HOT... I checked the power settings and set it to laptop and even installed the PowerNOW utility but after about an hour it still gets pretty dang hot. Im comparing this to my cousin's Dell 8600 which gets kinda warm but not HOT....

I dont really care about the warranty so I went ahead and opened up the bottomm.... well the RAM module is scorching while the computer is running! I have a custom built desktop which is running an nforce2 chipset and an AMD 2400 mobile (laptop cpu-it fits in my desktop and works fine) and that thing runs ice cool.

You will need that warranty. I bought the 3250HX80 and I was concerned because it was running so hot. Well 3 weeks after I had it, I went to turn it on and it kept rebooting at the WindowsXP screen, so I called tech support and all they cluld tell me was run the restore CD, so I ran it and then machine did the same thing, so I ran the disks again and after setting up winxp it rebooted and gave a bunch of memory errors. So i called tech support and they said either the memory or mobo was fried, so i took it back to circuit city and they were cool and exchanged it even though it was more than 2 weeks. So I brought home the new one fired it up and right away i noticed the keyboard was higer and looser on the left side and the wirelss connection would disconnect like every 7-10 mins. So I took it back again and picked up an HP. On the other hand, my mom bought one a few days after I did and she hasnt had any problems with hers, so it may just be a nit and miss kinda thing, but Averatec has lost my confidence.

My 3250-HX isn't any hotter than the other laptops I have used. Make sure you give the lappy adequate air flow beneath. Until recently I used one of those plastic wire grids that are made for the kitchen sink area. It worked well and helped to keep the heat from "vital body parts" :) . Then I got a laptop chill mat as a gift and that works even better - it has two fans powered by the usb port.

Any computer retail outlet should have them ... Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, CompUSA, etc.
