I was recommended earlier to look at the Compal EFL30/ChemBook2030, but i've never heard of them. my guess is, they're more of the customize-gaming type of manufacturers, sorta like the asus type of platform. anyways, i was just wondering if anyone knew anything about chembooks or compal(china) and where i could purchase a laptop from them. thanks.

Chembook are just rebrands of other manufactures

Compal is the person that makes the EFL30. So far, i've heard good things about them. but i think there was a minor keyboard flex... and the ridges-like patterns at the top of the laptop. Some people find that a turnoff. I think there is a review on the efl30 on this site, go check it out.

I know that discountlaptops.com sells them, but if you "customize-gaming type" notebooks, wait for the asus z62j which comes with the Ge7300 and core dual, or the asus w3j which has an ATI x1600
