Just wondering if anyone has 2 operating systems on their HEL 80, and if your computer gave you any fits in the process of getting them set up. I'm running XP right now but might want to add a linux based system. Thanks for the input.

Not on an HEL80, but I have the HGL30 set up like that, with very few problems. The hardware is very similar, and I know at least one or two other people around here run Linux + XP on their HEL80's. Go for it!

Yeah I have Ubuntu and XP on mine. Didn't give me any problems. It shouldn't unless you do it wrong. So no worries.

XP + Kubuntu here. No probs.
First install XP, then Kubuntu with grub as boot manager.

I'm "using" WinXP, openSuSE and Debian (Etch, if i rembember right) on my HEL80.
If i could give you a good advice: create a separate boot-partition for the bootmanager (normally GRUB).
    My partition table:
-Boot (i recommend something around 50 to 150 mb), set active BEFORE the linux-setup
-WindOwS (70GB), OS, XP-Bootrecord (untouched, GRUB is loading XP via chainloading)
    -Data (30GB), Windows-related Data
    #Extended-Partitions:
    +SuSE, Ext3, Mounted as /
    +Debian, Ext3, Mounted as /
+Exchange, FAT32 for exchanging Data between Linux and Windows
+SWAP (the little rest of my HDD ;))

The trick is, that you set active the BOOT-Partition and install GRUB in the Boot-Record of BOOT ... and _NOT_ into the MBR. By using this structure, your Windows will keep bootable equally what you do with your Linux ... simply set your Win-Partition active again ... and don't forget to disable the grub-partition ;)
When installing your linux-distribution, you have to mount the matching extended partion for linux to "/", swap to swap and "/boot" to the (active) Boot-Partition.
If you kill your linux, your GRUB will still be able to boot your Windows ... if you won't switch your bootable-flag ;)

    HI :D
(I run three at present, but did run four at one point. No issues that weren't self-inflicted.)
