    Hey guys,

I'm finally ready to buy my laptop, and I want to see if any of you are using your Hel-80s to make music.

Since it has a PCMCIA slot, I was going to pick the Echo Indigo card, but now I'm hesitant because I heard that the ASIO driver for it weren't that great. I've also heard that the Intel 945PM Chipset has issues with Firewire drives.

What are you guys using? I need to obtain about 3ms latency for recording, and something that works really well for pretty cheap. Anyone using USB, or Firewire devices?

I've got an old Tascam 122 unit, but haven't hooked it up yet. I hear that they've got an upgraded one (USB2.0) that doesn't have any latency, haven't seen any real reviews of it though. http://www.tascam.com/Products/US-122l.html

I'd also be happy to hear anyone's experience with recording stuff.

I know of a few people on here have posted about the topic, so I'd say try searching...

Just remember that you are talking a fairly specific utilization of the notebook, with a fairly small population to base a clear picture on.

I am using mine to run Rane Serato Scratch [USB] and it has been working fine. I have an Seagate drive that has worked fine through USB but will not register hooked up through firewire.
Supposedly the box that comes with Serato Scratch will be able to double as a breakout box with ASIO drivers to update it. If that happens i'll let ya know how well it works.
