Is there anyway to control the fan speeds manually for zepto notebooks, since I find my notebook fans are always on and very noticable, even when idling, I checked to see if it was because of the temperature bug but apparently its not since the temperature is at 47C, does go to about 61C yet fan noise remains the same

I would like to be able to reduce the fan speed when doing light activities like browsing the web and turn the fan at maximum during intensive activities.

I tried speedfan but it did not detect anyfans, tried I8kfangui but its only for dell laptops.

Notebook hardware control has fan monitoring options but we have to program the ACPI thing for zepto which is way out of my league.

So, In short how can I control the fan speeds.

Rene S Zepto do you have any input ?

I wonder whether the slowest fan speed could be made slower and therefore quieter with the speed chosen to be sufficient to dissipate the heat under low usage conditions. It might be possible to combine this with a slight increase in the trigger temperature for the fan and give quieter operation.

For more control, I think we will have to hope that Zepto decide to give end users more choice in fan operation, either in the BIOS or, preferably through a separate program similar to I8kFanGIUI.

However, the underlying problem is that silent operation is not feasible without the chassis getting uncomfortably hot. The 6x24 BIOS -005 tried this approach by taking out the slowest fan speed so the computer got much hotter (63C) before the fan came on. I felt that this was too hot for normal use.

I agree that there should be a slower fan speed, a speed that just barely rotates the fan, just to keep the air moving inside so that it doesnt stay in a hot pocket of air.

and a program for controlling the speeds would be great :)

There should definately be one, I mean the fan does go faster and slower depending on usage like in games, so there must be a way of manually controlling it.

My friend just bought a macbook pro with higher specs than me, a 2.4ghz processor and the gddr3 version of the 8600M GT and his notebook during light usage such as browsing the internet is unhearable, its very silent, during games the fan kicks in which is how a notebook should be.

Thanks for the ****ty comment. Im just giving a comparison, if you want to go price wise we can take it that way.

Fans of Acer 5920 which costs less are way quieter then the Zepto

Have you intalled the new BIOS that is mentioned elsewhere on this forum? Apparently it goes some way towards making the fans quieter.

Yep have the latest bios installed still no difference.

I dont understand why the fan never turns off and then on when needed, its just constantly on

No matter if it is 47 C or 62 C the noise of the fan is constant, but during games it gets louder which is ok

eeperman, the BIOS that has better fan control is for the 6024/6224/6324W machines.

blackbird, i've contacted our BIOS team at the ODM about this. Can't say how long it will take until i get an anwser but I'm on the case.

In the mean time, does using the Windows Power Saver power profile make any difference to the fan activity?

This normally locks the CPU at its lowest speed and may also turn off some other components. Less power = less heat.

A way to control the fans of the 3415w as well would be really great - mine keeps switching on and off around 50 degrees.

Thanks hope they have a solution, or can provide with a software which is manually able to control the fans

I am on win xp due to the dvd drive problem lol, Have selected the max battery power plan in power options, still no difference at all.

The Cpu I think automatically does its thing, right now when I go to my properties under my computer it says

    T7300 @ 2.0 Ghz
    1.20 Ghz

Some other time, like when doing something intensive I check what it says and it says

    T7300 @ 2.0 Ghz
    1.99 Ghz

And some other time it says

    T7300 @ 2.0 Ghz
    2.00 Ghz

Is that normal or not for the cpu to automatically change speed

It is perfectly normal for the CPU to change speeds and is called Intel Speedstep Technology.

You could try turning "DTS-calibration "off (leave DTS on, turn off only "calibration").. works form me.. in power saver mode in vista the fans are off 30-40% of the time...
try it out and let us know if it helps !

I went into the bios, did not see any option for dts calibration, maybe it was in the previous older bios since I do remember reading dts somewhere else

One thing people should remember here is that eventhough both Znote 6625WD and Znote 6024/6224/6324W are our machines it is 2 different BIOS crews working on them from the ODM. This means that there will be different options in the BIOSes from model to model and the fan control work differently on the different models, also when one thing is fixed on one line of machines, it doesn't mean the same thing has been fixed on the other line.

you need to enter CPU-thermal (something like that...)
it is little tricky to find.. but it is there....

gooing to look it up later for you!

edit: just read "rene s" post... maybe there is non for you.. but i think this DTS are on all the models...

I used a program called SpeedSwitchXP on my old Zepto 4200 and it has worked like a charm. Unfortunately there isn't a Vista version available and I am experiencing the same constant humming fra the fans.
