You need to change your signature from "soon to be Compal HEL80" ;).

If this problem only occurs on Counter Strike then I assume it's the game audio setting. You can check your speakers by opening up the master volume control and move the horizontal slider to the right to see if the sound comes only out of the right speaker, and to the left to see if the sound only comes out of the left speaker when playing an audio CD or game. If this works the way it should, then either the game settings are off, or the game is not written correctly.

If however you move it to the right and the sound comes out of the left speaker, please uninstall and reinstall your audio drivers.

Let us know how you come out with this experiment.

I have the same issue in DoD, another HL2 game. But it changes, sometimes the speakers are reversed, and sometimes they're fine. I'm trying to figure out what the problem is. I suspect it's a HL2 compatibility problem, or a driver problem, since the mic is also borked for CSS and DoD:S.

Use headphones or decent external speakers, the internal speakers are only meant to play Windows-sounds and stuff.

It's not just the internal speakers that get switched, the audio from the headphone jack is switched as well.

Is it just in those games?

Please test it the way I suggested in Post #52 above using a music CD.

Many games have a "reverse left right" option. It may also be available in your sound card drivers. If you run into it in EVERY application, then look at fixing it in your drivers. If it's only one app, then switch it in the program (if possible)

I have this same exact problem and I am unable to find a quick fix for it. Mine are switched both in-game and while out in Windows. I was hoping that the headphone jack wasn't this way, but it seems to have the same problem. Donald, can you help with this one? :(

I don't know if anybody has tried this, but I just tried doing the sound check in Counter Strike Source, and when it goes to the room, there are Red error messages inside of it. I'm assuming this is not normal...
