I may be reiterating here, but don't lose sight of something VERY important. A few dollars in price is nice to save (of course...and this is from someone who is allergic to overpaying for anything) but you can't buy customer service later on. Portableone's customer service should be a model for other manufacturers/retailers. When something goes wrong (and something will always go wrong at some point no matter how good the unit is) it is nice to know that you have people who are easily reachable and truly make your problem as if it were their own. Trust me, I recently got to test them to the nth degree (NOT on one of their UX or MX units), and they practically held my hand, tried to resolve it, and ultimately went to bat with the manufacturer for me. You can imagine how I felt their service was if after three and a half months dealing with them I just bought their UX machine (would have loved the performance of the MX, but needed something lighter in weight), and it is a remarkable machine with a unique screen. This is how people attract customers for life!

    I agree^

Heard nothing but good talk about Portable One's customer service.

    Is their MX screen glossy?

From what I have been told, the MX screen is a glossy screen. Someone did mention though that they were told that, if desired, it could be fitted with the same screen type as the upgraded screen of the UX (the new transreflective screen) for of course an upgrade cost. People have posted many positive comments about the MX screen. I have not seen it, but I can tell you that the UX transreflective screen is unique- different from anything I have seen. If you want to see more of my description, look at the comments under Portableone UX first impressions that I posted. It appears to combine the best features of glossy and matte screens.
Update: an upgrade option for $400 is now posted on their website. Sounds like a lot of money at first glance, but I have to tell you- I paid almost that for the upgraded 12.1" UX screen and I do not regret the expenditure. I haven't seen the regular screen so I can't comment on the comparison, but I can unequivocally say the transreflective screen is as good as advertised. It is not just for outdoor use- if you use a lot of Office applications in an office or school setting with overhead lighting, and are annoyed and/or get headachy from screen glare, then this is the screen for you! It combines the best features of both glossy (color depth and clarity) and matte (non-glare) in a compromise sort of combination; I truthfully could not figure out if I'd characterize it as glossy or matte- my daughter (who I bought it for) characterized it as a "glatte" screen :)
