My audio goes silent for a fraction of a second before resuming every so often when I'm listening to my music on Windows Media Player. Also when I have two lots of audio at the same time, like if I open a window and a youtube video starts playing, the audio goes very crackly and robot sounding. I have up to date drivers from the Zepto ftp, would be open to any suggestions of what to do.

Possibly related to the DPC latency issues in the other threads....

If its WMP then its not DPC, as its not live. What BIOS are you running? I suspect that your CPU goes into SLFM, wich is too slow for smooth playing, and thus making a break before it gets throttled up. Try setting your power option to High Performance, should lock the CPU in highest speed. If it stops then you have the solution, if not, come back and post more information about OS, hardware, BIOS etc

Right I've put it on High Power, but I'm still getting the skips and sound distortions, especially when loading images in IE. How do I found out my BIOS? I know I've got Vista 64, 2GB RAM, 2.4GHz Penryn.

CPU-z's mainboard page will show the BIOS version.
Perform (Start > run > perfmon) will give a good insight into overall system resource utilisation and enable you to see whether the audio skips are because the system is too busy.

When I'm downloading big images the CPU goes high to about 80 for a second.
Edit: that was scrolling through a page of loading images, I also loaded a few images from hyperlinks in new windows, and the CPU was alright with that, but it made the Disk reading go very high. -

So how much RAM do you have?
Is Windows short of space in physical RAM and keeps going to the paging file?

My specs are detailed higher up in the thread.
I've attached a screenshot of the performance manager.Attached Files:

That's a lot going on compared with what I am seeing while browsing this forum with several other applications open including Google Earth (which is a resource hog). You have, for example, a lot of network activity. What's the meaning of the 10 hard faults/sec on the memory?
The processes page of Task Manager will show what is using the resources (use View > Select Columns to add more columns).
Does the activity shown by perfmon drop when you close youe programs?

No idea about the memory faults, the network activity was probably because I was downloading something.
I attached an image of the task manager, that's with most programs closed. Perfmon is still getting some peaks.
There's one of when WMP is running, and I'm getting a few audio skips with that.Attached Files:

I've managed to get a lot of memory faults by starting up ACDsee, which is another big resource hog. However, the were corresponding green blocks of CPU and HDD activity. Now the program is loaded, everything is back to normal with no memory faults.
Perfmon help gives this description for hard fault:

I've experimented doing different things, but I've seen that when I'm loading a page in IE with lots of images, and scrolling at the same time, this causes the audio to go crackly, and the CPU to peak at 100%.

I'm running my DVD-TV player and just pointed ACDsee at a different folder of photos. The memory and HDD access have gone crazy but the TV player (both audio and video) hasn't been affected.
You could try going to the processes tab in Task Manager and give WMP a higher priority.
The other thing to try is another music player. I have used Winamp for years.

Right, I've downloaded this program but I can't seem to find out how to disable SLFM could you please give me a tip

See the Undervolting Guide for instructions on configuring RMclock.
I would be surprised, however, if it fixes your problem. I have SLFM enabled (at 600MHz) and never get any response problems - the CPU speeds up when there is work to be done (I wish my brain worked like that :wink.

I'm not seeing the same options on the left such as Advanced CPU settings

Yes and follow the tutorial to the end, then go to profiles page (main) and untick the [0 - SuperLFM - 8.0x - 0.8500V] line
