The part number is N1579DH1E-1 and you can search for it on Froogle.com with several stores showing it coming on the 19th ETA and selling for around $1300, its a 11.1" notebook, has Vista, dual core ULV 1.06 like the Asus U1F, built in DVD burner, 120 gig hard drive. I hope the quality is okay because that price is amazing and I really think I will buy this!![]()

Whoa! That's a great price. Thanks for the news. Maybe I will get this.
The Averatec site hasn't been updated, but I guess that it would appear here

I sent an email to Averatec and this is the response I received.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your email.

Thanks. I am desperate for a new notebook, but I don't want to sell off my current one to get a new one. I've put in a lot of money in upgrades, so I'd rather have my current tablet and an ultraportable.
-
So this is an Averatec 1579, its a rebranded Twinhead Slimnote/Stylebook F11Y sold in Europe and Australia and is also sold in India as the ACI DimiQ 1100. These latter two interesingly only have the Core Solo ULV processor, while Averatec brought it here with the Core Duo ULV. Its also sold in Korea as the TG N1581SM1K
with a Core Duo processor.
Here's the review of the ACI DimiQ 1100 to get an idea of what the Averatec 1579 will be like when it comes here.

Wow..lots of research on this matter. Thanks for the posting, Rahul.
-
Wow, it looks really nice! Thanks for the heads up, Rahul.
The only thing I don't like is the Averatec badge (I hate Averatec, it seems cheap....) Is that an integrated optical drive on the left side? I couldn't tell. It wouldn't surpprise me if they left it out, because its under 2.8lbs... -
Yes, the optical drive is on the left side of the notebook, not the right side as for most notebooks.
Yes, I am also wary of the Averatec name but I think these later models, especially the ultraportable models are better built, they at least look nicer. -
Averatec may not have the best build quality or warranties, but their notebooks look decent (sometimes very aesthetic) and they are very affordable (like Acer).
-
Excellent, an 11" dual core notebook with an integrated DVDRW drive at under 3lbs for $1300. Thats an INSANE deal!
-
hey guys, im real excited as well but i think there is no dvd burner, just dvd/cdrw combo, check the stats
-
Nope, it does have a DVD burner, trust me.
What stats are you reading? -
ah i hope you're right, i just did the froogle search as you said and saw the stores had it listed as dvd/cdrw. maybe buying direct from averatec will give you the dvdrw option? sorry im pretty new to buying computers - id been looking at the older averatec models and decided to wait for their release of a new model and happened upon your post - sincere thanks for sharing all that information. just a question, if you decide to buy, is it worth upgrading to 2gb ram in your opinion? will the 1.06 duo be fast enough to sustain vista? i saw they have it labeled as "xp built, vista compatible." thanks!
-
These will already be preloaded with Vista and I think it will run fine, but I think I would upgrade the ram to at least 1.5 gigs, I think it can be upgraded to 2 gigs max.
Unfortunately, the hard drive and memory slots are not accessible on the bottom of the laptop like most, you'll have to take apart the entire notebook to upgrade them. -
Rahul - do you have any links for preorders? Any places online taking orders for this?
And, also, you could write a review for this if you get it. I'd imagine this notebook would open up the ultraportable market to an entirely different class of notebook shopper.
It's really very exciting. -
Hmm, it doesn't seem to be on the Averatec website yet....
-
-
-
Well, a few stores now say it will be released on May the 11th, stupid delays.
-
Impatience is a virtue in the electronics world
-
The specs and looks are knockouts though, this will be quite a good value if the quality is decent. Pity I'm looking for a tablet as my next pc.
-
-
I'm more into the Asus R1F. I was looking closely at the tx1000, but a passive screen just doesn't cut it for taking notes. I was really anticipating that new Gateway model, but thats way expensive and slow to boot. I like the passive+active digitizer though. Plus, for its size and specs, its too heavy: same size/weight as the tx1000 and R1.
The Santa Rosa refresh of the R1F looks to be my next computer. I'm now actually actively in the market for a notebook over the summer, as my Sony has pretty much gone suicidal. Once I get it back from repair, I'm just going to hand it to my mom and get something that will stand up to daily travel. -
short mention of the 1579 in a new york times article, kindof interesting? http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/03/technology/03basics.html?_r=1&8dpc&oref=slogin
-
@Vivek - I agree, the R1F is a much better choice at this point.
-
No, they have mentioned the 1579 as well (just search the phrase '1579', its at the very end).
And about the tablet: the CX120 has come up in a big way, because I found that it is only $1500, and it has better battery life, and both kinds of screen digitizers. I'll make my final decision after seeing the Santa Rosa refresh of the R1F. -
Cool, there are so many different lappys out there.
-
What's the latest on this lappy?
-
Er, yea. It doesn't appear to be on Averatec's webpage....
Buy.com has it, but they say it is temporarily sold out. http://www.buy.com/prod/N1579DH1E_1..._11_1_WXGA_LAN_VISTA/q/loc/101/204389943.html -
Haha, its finally up on their website! http://www.averatec.com/products/portable/featherlight/1579.asp
And buy.com has it in stock (same link as above)
I think I would rather have the Gateway NX100 though, its the same weight and has a bigger screen, for almost the same price. -
Thanks Vivek.
-
Cheapest price I can find it for right now is at Circuit City for $1199 after $50 instant savings and $50 mail-in rebate. The rebate expires on the 23rd. Should I get this notebook? Hmmm..............
-
It seems like a pretty nice little notebook, especially for the price. Not one for me though, I'm going for something larger with more power.
I'd love to see a review on this though! -
There's finally a review of it over at CNET.

Averatec 1500 coming on 19th, only $1300!
