Averatec 3150P. I keep getting this error message at boot up that says "NorthBridge Fan Error. Please check blah blah." Then I press F1 to continue the boot, poke the secondary (or is the primary fan?) at the bottom of the laptop to get it going and everything's fine until the fan gets stuck again. I've thought about opening the laptop, but it's pretty difficult to do so are there any suggestions? I've heard that Northbridge fans in general are unreliable and since I bought this from a third party, I don't have a warranty.

Is the unit still within a 1yr period? If so, try contacting Averatec, tell them your problem and when they ask, just tell them you got the unit within the year, but can't remember when and don't have the reciept anymore. Possibly even say you got it as a give from your parents, etc... See what happens, the worst that can happen is that they say no.

I would suggest opening the case and checking to see if theres something causing the blockage. I dont know about your model specificly, but mine moves a good amount of air, and in just a fwe monts of constant use, it has built up a baby dust monster. Cant hurt to check after all, since tech support wont give you the time of day. Could be that the fan is really on its last legs. Again, not being familiar with your specific model, I dno't know how easy it would be to replace that fan...but i couldn't imagine it would be too difficult.

Any other 3150 users out there have any suggestions?
