I experienced a semi-meltdown in the connection between the AC adapter plug and the AC input on the laptop. The adapter plug tip was slightly melted and wouln't power up the computer, so I bought an aftermarket universal AC adapter that is Averatec 3200 compatible and plugged it in. I can only get contact if I hold the plug just right and put pressure in toward the laptop.
I'm guessing that the internal side of the connection in the computer may be damaged (though it looks OK from the outside). My friend thinks the new adapter isn't the right one. The male end of the old adapter looks identical to the new one, so I,m not buying that idea. Anybody had similar problem? If so, I'd be greatfull to know what you did. I am not afraid to open up the laptop to make a simple soldering repair if that would do it........OK, I,d be a little afraid. There is no warranty issue, I just don't want to undo anything I can't redo. I,d appreciate any thoughts, Thanks, Jon

Jon... I experienced a similar meltdown on my 3225HS awhile ago. I had to position my AC plug in the weirdest of ways just to power up my laptop, and finally got sick and tired of it. I bought a new power jack from a laptop repair dealer on eBay and soldered in the new part (pretty quick 'n easy to do). After that, my connection seems to be rock solid now.

I found the guy that I purchased the new jack from. Here's a link to his eBay listing... http://cgi.ebay.com/AVERATEC-2100-2200-3200-5110-6200-6235-7100-AC-DC-JACK_W0QQitemZ320211765304QQihZ011QQcategoryZ31534QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thank you for the tip. I'm pretty sure that's the problem. I've never opened up a laptop before but I'm hoping there's no booby traps or flyaway parts. Thanks again, Jon

It's actually quite easy... just takes a little time and patience. In fact, here's a link to another thread here about disassembling and repairing the AC jack (with pictures to help visually guide you along).... http://www.averatec-forums.com/index.php?topic=21.0

Yes, I saw that when I was looking for some info about disassembly. It really was helpful. I just finished the job. Not as tough as I feared. And it WORKS! Didn't even need to buy a new jack. Thanks to all! Jon
