one day when i booted up my averatec i got a blue screen that flashed then my laptop would reboot and it would keep doingt hat till i shut it off i loaded up my windows xp professional sp2 disc and when i go to delete the partition and set up a new one before i reformat it says unable to delete partition exiting windows setup can anyone help me with this problems ASAP

Chutsman's advice is good - but using the Windows XP Recovery Console in Repair mode, you should be able to obtain a directory of the windows installation directory. This will give you some idea whether the whole drive is trashed.
Incredible as it sounds, in its default mode (as booted from the CD), the Recovery Console is a limited access tool to protect you from yourself.
Also, if your goal is to just do a fresh installation without actually changing the current partition parameters, just let the XP disk use its setup routine. It has the option to reformat the existing space.
