I have an old Averatec 3250 that continues to hum along without complaint or problems. Running Windows XP SP 3. My question involves the 3 USB ports. They appear to be powered whether the computer is on or not. Didn't realize this until I bought a mini Bluetooth dongle. Leaving the dongle in the USB slot and upon firing up the computer after being shut down for a day, I found the battery completely flat. After a day or two of this happeneing, the penny finally dropped. The dongle was draining the battery. Wondering if it was just the dongle, I plugged in an iPod with the laptop turned off and saw the computer was charging the iPod.
I've had a look in the BIOS settings and I can't find any setting to shut off power the the USB ports when the computer is turned off. Am I overlooking anything?

They wired up the Southbridge (VIA 8235) on these to provide always-on power. Either unplug your devices, or leave it hooked up to the AC Adapter. Sorry! :(
