My 6130 screen/display has some issues. In the words of the movie 'spaceballs' its gone 'plaid'. see pic.
It started after my power supply fried one day. I've since gotten a new power supply and replaced the vga/power control board with another used one. It's bad on boot up, bios and windows screens.
Is the video 'card'/'chip' bad ? Any ideas? HELP???

Check the LCD cable to see if it has come loose.

That's funny! Why did you buy an Averatec?! That might have been the worst decision you have ever made.
-
it look gpu might be cook try it on external monitor see if same

I still have my Averatec 6130hs and it still works. I bought it on September 18th 2004 on a Saturday.
-
I have tried it on an external monitor and got the same results. I've also had it apart twice and had no loose cables.

If it does in on both LCD and external monitor, point to the gpu. On this model it is soldered on the MB. I have also seen this type of screen when the Uniwill BIOS was used. The Uniwill MB has 128meg (GPU) where Averatec is only 64meg.
Time for a new notebook.
The MB is over $400 from uniwill. Adaptec will not sell parts, besides their service STINKS. -
Thanks for the info... I'd hate to get rid of my averatec. That P4 in there was the bomb. Playing movies from the hard drive was awesome. never a hiccup or pause. sure it got hot, but put a heat pad under it and elevate it well and all was ok. Maybe I can find another mb on ebay.

My 6130 is still working 2+ years old now. I blow out the dust monthly. Then once a year I take it apart and clean it out good and re-apply Artic Silver 5.
You may get lucky on eBay and find one with a bad lcd and get it cheap. -

If you are not or never have been or never intend to be an Averatec owner - you should go play in some other group.
If you are or have been an Averatec owner, you made a similar decision at some point and belittling others for their decision is childish at best.

I concur with blue68f100, if both the LCD and external monitor show the same defect, you are money ahead obtaining another notebook as to repair the current unit. -
I have been having trouble with my screen, it has been going from bright to dim at random times. when i move the screen or press towards the bottom it will either brighten up or go dim. The screen is still very usable, just noticible when it switches. Also my PCMIC card will not work. Other than cracks in the plastic, it is still a very good laptop.
Windows Vista installed (actualy speeds up laptop in my opinion -graphics)
I have the latest drivers, and catylist from driverheaven.com
I have been able to play
Call of Duty 4-turned down a little
Transformers- all the way up except for no High Definition support.
Deer Hunter 2005 season
Falcon 4.0 - newest one turned all the way up
Flight Sim X - medium graphics
and a couple others, so i would like to fix the little stuff
