I bought this 6130 laptop from Sam's Club and have been using it for 8 months and everything went well until the last 2 days.

The problem is the computer stays on for about 30-40 minutes and it shuts down by itself eventhough it was in the process of burning DVD. Last night, I was typing in MS Word and suddenly it turned off before I even had a chance to save the doc. But I can turn it back on and recover the file and work at it again. Then, it shuts down again in 30-40 minutes.[ :(!]

    Any helps will be appreciated.

it sounds like it could be overheating.

Try using some compressed air and clean out the air vents, you will for sure clear out some dust clumps.

And also try Ubercams pdf ( http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12344 ) that goes through replacing the thermal paste on the cpu. it has helped for many people.

Sounds like it's going into sleep mode rather than shutting down, if you are able to go straight back and work on the file you were working on. Maybe you need to check your power saving options to see what they're set to.

As for overheating, I would definitely reccommend getting a Targus cooling mat - it has fans and definitely makes a difference to my laptop - I never have overheating issues.

The thermal paste is also a very good idea - but this will void your warranty, no?

1.) Never use your notebook on your lap, use it on a flat desk
2.) Clean out your laptop with Ubercam's guide and change the OEM thermal heating paste
3.) Prop your laptop up with something (I prop the back feet with something about 1 inch high

4.) Optional: Buy a laptop cooling mat

I guarentee your laptop will never shut off again.
