On some games I play the sound likes to skip, has anyone else had these problems... It mostly happens during cut sceens. Also, I can't get Neverwinter Nights to run at all, once I start the game my machine hangs/freezes and can't be recovered (I need a HARD reboot)

Have you tried on AC power ?

My unit tends to slow down a lot when running on batteries, and the sound distorts. Using AC power solves that.

It turns out the problem was with the OpenGL drivers. I'm told that the XP ATI drivers don't update OpenGl from the original 2000 drivers.

I found a link to some Omega ATI drivers that fixed the freezing problem. The audio still skipps during cut sceens, maybe a dvd driver or sound driver.
