Attempting to boot to a WinXP Pro CD, press a key to boot from CD, says "Setup is loading files" and screen goes black. I assume the appropriate drivers don't exist on the Windows XP Pro CD?

I had similar problems getting XPpro on our 3260. The funny thing is that XP w/ sp2 already in it would not work at all. It would load up and then the installer would fail. XP w/ sp1 already in it would actually load up and install but would fail finding a particular file that it was looking for. I skipped the wayward file and everything seems to work fine. I applied all the updates online, which took some time. I am getting ready to put SuSE 9.3 on this machine as well, it is rumored to have the ralink linux drivers already in it. I had to use a wrapper to get the broadcom one to work that is on my HP notebook (getting ready to burn down my wife's old 3220 as soon as she finishes migrating her data to her new 3260 and it has the bcom wireless so...)

My advice is to find something that will actually load on the system (what would be best is to get a network install, but some things that are simple with Linux are quite complicated with Win32, and vice versa...) and get it up far enough to install the drivers and then update it the rest of the way with windows update. ake sure you've burned all the drivers to a CD before you start the install. If you have all the drivers XP gives you a chance to give it the drivers before starting the install, so you can do it that way...

the cool thing about having wireless on your notebook is that even if you have a dial-up connection at home, once you get your system up you can take it to a local coffeshop or wherver has free wireless and do it there, which is usually much faster than trying to do it over dialup.

    Good Luck!
