Hello, I hope you can help. A week ago I had to press the on/off button a few times in order to get the machine to start, I didnt think a lot of it as it always started eventually. Today it wont start, no matter how many times i try, the 'half moon' LED lights up orange, and I can hear the hard disk running, but nothing on the display, the wireless appears to come on if i press the button but the machine doesnt appear on the network.
I have tried to download the manual from trigem site but they dont list this model, which is strange in itself as the machine cant be 2 years old yet.
If anyone knows where to get the manual, or can tell me whether the orange LED means the machine has gone into some sort of hibernation please let me know, (I never paid attention to it when the machine was working, so no idea if it should be on or what colour) I've emailed trigem asking for the manual, but looking at this forum it's hit and miss whether they reply!
I've tried looking through the forum and have tried the power off/battery out/ hold power button for a minute, but to no avail.
I've also tried booting the machine from UBCD and also tried pressing DEL as it starts, but I cant even get into bios, it's as if the lights are on - but no ones home!
Until i get the manual i'm really stuck, I cant find a reset pinhole or anything similar, does anyone know if it has one?
Hope someone has a suggestion, or even better a manual they can send me!
many thanks in advance
J

Hi Jill,
I have the manual in a pdf format. Unfortunately, the forum only allows a maximum of 1.43 Meg pdfs and this is 3.4meg. I'll have to email it to you. Just go to my profile and drop me a private message with your email addy so I can attach it back to you. Don't know how much it will really help you since it sounds like you've got a boot up problem but we'll see after you get it.

Rick you might try sharing the PDF on Rapidshare or something similar?? Or, Jill, do a Google search for "filetype
df Averatec 7100"
Youll probably find it. -

Sent it Jill. Hope it helps but sorta doubt it will. I think your problem runs deeper than something you're doing wrong.

I have the 7100 and about 6 months ago I couldn't get the computer to restart or turn on consistently. I would turn the power on and I can see the hard drive working but the screen is blank. I have researched this and from different places they all seem to say the same thing: Hardware issue with the on-board video card. Because the laptops get so hot parts of the mobo will "loosen" and not allow a good connection. After I let the computer sit for about half hour I can get a good start up about 40% of the time. I have to hold the power button and start again over and over until it comes on. I tried to get Averatec before the warranty to advise but I never heard back. I have even tried Ubuntu to solve some issues with the AMD processors, so many issues, but it was a good computer for about a year.

Steve,
I will forward the ownerds manual to you within the next couple of days as soon as I get on the other computer. As to your problem and a hardware reset, there is no hardware reset on these at least in the manner you're thinking. There are times when the computer fails to fire up and the usual method of reseting that is typically by removing both battery and AC power and holding the power button on for 30-60 seconds. That tends to clear memory and reset the processor. That's it though.

The Averatec 7100 is pretty much the ignored, child of the Trigem lineup. It's made by Twinhead, and has been reproduced in far more models then I care to think about. I hate the inside of them.
Long story short, insufficient cooling to cope with the TDP (Thermal Design Power) of the nVidia MCP Chipset and Socket S2 AMD CPU (TK Series, some TL's), causes thermal stressing in the Northbridge BGA Spheres.
Fix: Reflow the Northbridge BGA. Check eBay or the internet (Google?) for shops that can provide this service. It'll bring your board back to life.
Cons: The MCP chipset is going to do it again at some point. Thermal stressing combined with excessive case flex due to the 7100's design is going to fail the part out again. That, and the 7100 has that nasty hinge breakage issue.
That's my 0.02USD on the problem. Hope it helps! -
I agree with WindDrake. It is indeed a hot running unit. In fact within the first year of owning one and noticing how warm the air was coming out of it got, I bought a chill pad with dual fans. It fully cooled down the internal temps by 15 to 20 degrees as measured on Speedfan.
As to the hinges, in my case forewarned was forearmed. I now carefully and with two hands slow-w-wly open the unit up. Knock on wood, I haven't had one issue with it.

well ... I had the same problem with my Averatc 7100 series, went out and I suddenly realized I was by heating. Get help from Averatec customercare and this was the answer:

Dear Mr./Mrs:
Thank you for contacting the Averatec Help Desk.
There are a few things we can try to resolve this issue.
1. Hardware reset.
- Remove the a/c from the system, remove the battery from the system, hold the power button for 30 seconds.
2. Reset the bios to optimal settings.
- Restart the computer, at the white averatec screen there should be an option to press F2 or Del, press the appropriate key, once inside the bios press F9 to load optimal defaults, if this is not an option when pressing F9 it should be listed in the EXIT section of the bios.
3. Fan Calibration.
- Restart the computer, at the white averatec screen there should be an option to press F2 or Del, press the appropriate key, once inside the bios navigate to the ADVANCED section, there should be an option in here for fan calibration. This generally takes 5 to 20 minutes.
If these steps do not solve the problem we will have to set up an RMA to repair the unit."
I hope you may find useful
Greetings! -
Anybody can send me the service manual, having same problem and want to service it myself.
