    Hello,

We have a number of Averatec notebooks and 4 Averatec AV3715-EH1 notebooks. One of them has been giving us some nasty problems lately.

The main issue is that the built in WiFi does not work all the time. It may work okay one time, but not the next. I have tried to reinstall the drivers to the latest ones from RaLink (3.2.0.0). That did not have an affect so I resorted to the ones that were known to work (3.0.3.0). Yet the problem exists.

I remember talking with an Averatec Tech support person (before they turned into TriGem). He said that the WiFi module may have overheated and is unstable.

This brings me to the next thing: Sometimes upon bootup, I get a BSOD message 9C (MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION). Or other things that may happen is that the screen turns black and everything freezes (the lights stay on though).

    What could be causing this?
    Thanks for any suggestions

    Mike

You can try to replace the wireless card. It's not expensive and only around $20 to $30. You only need to remove the top cover to access the card.

Do you know where there are instructions on the web for replacing the card?
Is the WiFi card underneath the keyboard? Do you mean that top cover or the cover on the bottom (where the CPU/Cooling fan)?

Sorry for my mistake, you have to remove the motherboard to access the card..... a stupid design, making maintenance or upgrade impossible.

Becareful with Zip connectors as they're easily to break, especially the one for power cable. Feel free to ask if you have any question. Make sure you try all possible software or driver problems before open this laptop as it's not easy for an unexperienced user.
