Hello,
My averatec n1000 was blue screening every time it booted up, so when it was starting I hit F5 to do an HDD system restore. Two minutes into the system restore it said the 'ghost image' was corrupted, opened a command prompt that said 'type exit'. I typed exit, the computer shut down. Now when I restart, it loads up to the point that it says 'Hit F5 for Hdd system restore". Hitting f5 does nothing and it never loads any further than that.
I have an XP disc (from a different computer since Averatec doesnt come with one) and I want to just reformat it. The problem I have is that the laptop doesn't have a cd drive. Is it possible to reformat w/o a CD drive? It has an SD card slot and USB ports. Also, if I buy an external cd drive, will it work without having to install drivers, since I can't get windows to load anymore.
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Can you get into the bios , usualy F2 , or F8 while booting and look if there is a tab for booting options
Look to see if boot from usb cd rom is available

It also sounds a lot like you have a failed hard drive. It may be necessary to replace the hard drive before you will be able to reinstall windows.
When you follow Tomcat57's advice, try looking for the BIOS' option to restore optimum settings (the phrasing of option this varies from BIOS to BIOS). It is possible (unlikely, but doesn't hurt to rule it out) that the BIOS settings for your hard drive are simply corrupted, and resetting them will allow you to rebuild the existing hard drive.
