I will be an incoming freshman in college this fall. I am searching for a laptop that is under $1000, preferrably $700-800. I really like the idea of having a small, light laptop. I haven't heard a lot about Averatec but I passed by a laptop in a store and I wanted to get some more information. Is Averatec a good buy? I need a laptop on which I can do word processing, download music, upload pictures, and carry out basic internet functions. Oh and I need wireless networking. Are they quality laptops and do they last for a few years?

Averatec make a good LT for the price you pay, cheap. If you are lucky enough that you will not need any service.
Averatec has the poorest service department I have ever dealt with. No QC. They do honor the warranty, but be prepared to be with out for many weeks. If you will need support stay away from them. -
With my computer history, I will definitely be needing a lot of support. I don't think Averatec is for me. Thanks for your help!

Alenka, the support Blue was referring to was repair support, yes, Averatec is dismal in this dept. But if your Averatec does not need service then they are good systems. I have a 3250 model just over 1 year and my only beef is that the battery run time is down to 55 minutes - new it was 2hr 45 min.
At the top of all the topics here is the one called "Which Notebook Should I Buy". Why don't you fill out the "form" and you will get suggestions for a suitable notebook. -
averatec 2100 all the way. very light and portable and pretty powerful. I can game and work on it ver easily. If you can get ahold of one Id def recomend it. But since youll be in college (dorm or no dorm) Id recomend getting a warranty due to the travel and abuse the pc will see. Also do a 8 cell upgrade for battery life.
