I have a discontinued 6130HS. I play C4 on it. Being a 3gig P4 it generates alot of heat. But plays ok since I have upgraded the thermal paste to the heatpipe system with Artic Silver 5. The Video is a ATI 9600M w/64meg. Just don't expect to play off of the battery very long.

Depending on how much you want to spend for a LT check out http://www.killernotebooks.com
Note these are desktop replacements, heavy.

Averatec laptops aren't made for gaming, they are made for the budget oriented.

Rahulnirmal, you are being very kind :) Not certain even "budget oriented" is the market for this product.

My suggestion is to only spend as much on this brand as you are willing to lose. Averatec does not sell computers, they sell chances.

    Good luck with your purchase.

Ah yes, thats the 4200 series with the Intel GMA 900 graphics. This is not a gaming machine let me tell you that, the integrated graphics in it are horrible, just forget about playing todays games, don't even think about it. I'm afraid you are stuck to playing games from 2003 or before or some newer 2d games but thats it.

Depending on your budget, you might like to check out Sagers laptops, they kick ass when it comes to gaming. Kinda similar to Alienware but better build quality and CHEAPER!

The ONLY place to get them (in my opinion) is from Powernotebooks.com - they have possibly the best customer service I have ever received from a reseller.

Check out something like the 5320 for just over a grand and a half, or even the 5720 for just over a coupla grand.

I had the 5720 briefly, had to send it back eventually because of a keyboard problem. But boy, did it play games! The best gaming performance I have ever seen on a laptop. Plus, it had a Pentium M so it never overheated, unlike these P4 Averatecs, which DEFINITELY need either a cooling mat or Arctic Silver or both, to work well in the long run.

I would like to add to what games you can play on the GMA 900. I didn't buy my laptop for gaming but I enjoy playing Counter-strike 1.6 and Condition Zero. Those games run just fine. I have not checked the FPS on CZ but on CS 1.6 I get 70+ FPS.

Also, if some of you guys are looking for a very budget gaming machine. Why not take a look at the Dell E1505 / 6400 from Dell? With the X1400.

I do agree with what was being said about Averatec. They aren’t known for putting together the most quality machines. Their service isn't something to be proud of either.

I think you should check the 13 incher sony sz110 which i own. It can do gaming at 128bmb dedicated. Switchable to 256mb shared. Its great buy 2x the price of a regular averatec. I once wanted an averatec even if i was aware of the risks because i was going to get it at costco which has 6mo return policy but I was turned off by the heat issue.

If you cant go w the sz110..try checking out ibm lenevos or step up to 15 inchers where dedicated card mostly starts.

    gaming...

well i bought the 2155 model... AMD turion 64 and upgraded to the mt40, and put 2Gb of Ram in... spent a total of $1200 to get this lappy the way i wanted... actually i had to buy some thermal grease too, the stock pads that most companies use are worthless... so i paid for some nice stuff... i play counterstrike source and HL2 on it... i get around 45fps which is pretty good... it weighs 4.4pounds and has a 12" screen... seeing ppl in the distance of CS is about the only problem sometimes :D

i dont mind gaming on it tho... i just jacked up the memory for the grafix to 128 in the bios... and it does ok... the mt40 and RAM were what really made the difference tho...

anyways that is just my two cents worth on gaming with my averatec! :p

Im afraid that's not true. I have the 950, which (apparently) ain't much better, but plays modern games for me? This chip just get's slated cause it performs only on low settings on modern games, you can 30 fps on Half Life 2.
Which for someone who just wants to release his/her boredom this is fine. The latest Battle for middle earth game (BFME II) which was recently relased a few weeks back Supports the GMA 900 & 950. so it obviously plays.
Unreal 2004 runs fine on my system. I suggest people actually try the chip, before reading all the reviews out there. Sorry but this is my understanding as i have the chip. :) Strategy games will work fine on the intel 950 I have Command & Conquer : Generals & Zero Hour.. These work. Just if you love having the best graphics in the world it ain't for you. but if you just like games for the gameplay then its fine.

I just wanted to stress this, as people slate this chip too much.

The Intel 900GMA is about 1/2 as powerful as the 950GMA. I have tried HL2 and it isn't playable. Most of the time I was getting 5-10fps. I can play with 20FPS, but 5-10 is horrible. Now I play Counter-Strike 1.6 and Condition Zero on my 900GMA and both games run great at 70FPS! The reason I know it's about 1/2 as powerful is the 950GMA is because I ran 3dmark05 on it. I got 276. The average 950GMA is around 500. And the 200M is around 600-700.

yeah I dont see why everyone is bashing averatec, I dont know about other models but the 2100 is a great machine and the gaming experience thus far has been awsome (take things with a grain of salt for what it is it games very well). Granted my sff will get alot better fps vs. the averatec, but the 2100 can def game. Plus last time I checked msi made pretty good stuff, and all the 2100 is is a msi bar bones.
