Well this is part of the about page from their website.

Like the roadster, AVERATEC's products are stylish and innovative. By using technology such as integrated wireless LAN, built-in optical drives and energy-efficient CPUs(only 1.5 hours for the 6130hs), all in a lightweight and sleek package, the company is driving the personal computing market forward.

I like my notebook but if they would have charged 50 dollars more for a more durable case then people wouldn't complain about the case.

The Averatec are packaged with a lot of stuff. I saw floor models but had the plastic simulated screen. When I saw a full working one, I was not impressed except for the Tablet PC version (which I almost bought) but I found my current PC for a lot less.

yeah I hear ya. Blows me away to discover how cheap the plastic casing really is.

At the store, the notebook seemed to look super durable with its "metallic" looking case.

to be the devils advocate...i'm pretty damn impressed by my 6130, considering the price. There isnt anything it hasnt been able to do, and i've thrown plenty at it (image processing, web creation, audio manipulation, even newly released "high end" games). Its expandability is excellant, and i continue to get complements from co-workers and students alike. There hasnt been a WiFi I havent been able to connect to, a movie I couldnt rip/burn or a report it hasnt processed.

Granted its got a brick for a power converter, and the battery life is a joke...but as a "desktop replacement" running a 3 gig P4 HT processor, thats not supprising. And yes the case is thin and cheep, but thats what makes this a thiner model than others on the market (and I am more careful with it that i would like...). Some members have had their issues, and those issues are valid concerns. But to be fair, those satisified dont tend to speak as loudly as those scorned.

My point is that for a tool such as this, for roughly a grand cold cash, it's been great for me (and I use it every day). And when the time comes, Averatec will be whom I look to first for a new system..barring some catastrophy followed by subpar service.

    Cheers!

    DD,
I agree with you. I just hope their next notebook will have the the amd 64 and a dedicated graphics card that you can remove and upgrade later on. I would buy another averatec if I had the money.

Yeah maybe it would be good to reflect on the good points of the 6130HS. Its speed (except HD) and price are good. The sound quality for lappy speakers are great, especially if you own a pair of good headphones.

What high end games have you ran on it? I put a couple games on the laptop, but they run worse than my 2.4 Ghz P4 desktop with a Radeon 9000, even if i use omegadrivers with the laptop.

Well, I do run the games at 1280x800[8)]9

I've run Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 at moderate settings and it's run pretty good, ran Generals and Zero hour fine, Half Life 2 playing at high settings 800 *600, Prince of Persia Warrior Within, Beyond Good and Evil. Mind you I only ran the games at 800 * 600.
    Good laptop at capturing video.
