    Hello,

Just did a bad flash on a IFL90. I won't boot. The blue power on led is on.
The light flashes a few times in the HDD led.
    Black Screen

How do I reset the BIOS?

    Thanks.

I'm having a similiar issue. Can someone post how to use the crisis bios? I downloaded it but there were no instructions. Can I use it from a USB stick?

    Thanks for the help.

Ok. I have a FL90 and had to reset (restore my BIOS).
You WILL need a USB Floppy Drive, yes.. Those 1.44 MB diskette drive...

    CMOS/BIOS Recovery:

    1 - Download CrisisTools from the link above;
    2 - Download the latest BIOS for FL90;
3 - Download Floppy Image (in English) http://woundedmoon.org/win32/floppyimage152.zip
    3 - Unpack everything;
4 - Open Floppy Image, on Write Floppy tab, click Browse and select the .img file that came in FWCrisisTools.zip
5 - Insert the disk in drive and click Start
6 - When it finishes, delete bios.wph on the floppy
7 - Open the BIOS uncompressed files and you will find 2 files. One is .ROM another is .WPH, use the .WPH (for FL90).
8 - Copy it to floppy and rename it to bios.wph
9 - Remove the battery from you notebook, power and everything else
    10 - Hold Fn+B
11 - Connect the USB Floppy to your notebook
12 - Connect the power cord
    13 - Press power
14 - When the floppy light start to blink, release Fn+B
15 - After 5-10 seconds it will start blinking again and will keep blinking for 2 minutes
16 - Wait like 5 minutes. Your notebook should power down alone. If it doesn't remove the power, plug it again and try to turn it on

This should help everybody who had the same problem as me.

    Hello there.

Tried to flash to 1.12, did not work, so my laptop is bricked.

Tried your recovery procedure with CrisisTools, but unfortunately it won't work, and I don't know why. All goes well until step 14, at this point the USB Drive LED doesn't blink at all, in fact, it seems that the USB Drive is not recognized by the laptop.

I'm real desperate at the moment, do you have any suggestions ?

If your ASUS BIOS is American Megatrend, this may work:

1.- You need a floppy USB or USB pen drive & another Computer
2.- you dont need a bootable the diskettte or usb pen (just need to have a valid dos media)
3.- Get the bios you want to recover such as C90S0601.ROM and renamed
C90S.BIN (in your case, would be another name but the file extension ROM and BIN do aply the same way)
4.- Copy the .BIN file into your disckette or usb pen drive
5.- Plug in the device into you notebook
6.- Turn On your C90S (or whatever model that have an AM BIOS brand)
    7.- Press Alt-F2
8.- Wait, the light on your usb device will turn On and Off until it gets On all time.
9.- Press the power button again to turn it Off
10.- Turn On again your C90S (or whatever model you have with the AM BIOS brand) and you will have your machine working again

My laptop is a C90S so I dont know if this will work in yours but if they have same bios brand (in this case American Megatrend) Im 90% this will work. Please, tell me if this work for you and post here because it may be the solution for all new models with AM BIOS Brand for Asus notebooks.

    Best regards,

    RG

what type of flash driver are you using.
size of the USB drive must be 512 or 256.
Have you used the HP tool to make the USB device bootable.

    I used this procedure :

I have an IFL90, not an Asus or other brand, since this topic is about IFL90 BIOS reset.

And to flash my laptop, I used an UBCD, started a DOS image, and then flashed from a burned CD. The flash went well but when my laptop shut down itself, all the leds gone off, even the "AC in" led, and I can't put it on since this time.

Thank you, that's exactly what I used, I tried it several times, but when I am to the step 14 of the recovery procedure proposed by Danmit, "14 - When the floppy light start to blink, release Fn+B", the floppy light never blink...

I don't know what happen with my laptop but I really sad ATM.

Yeah, as I said, I already tried it, indeed the compal procedure is slightly different, but still no go. I've also tried the procedure described in the IFL90 technical manual, which is again slightly different from the 2 others, but still no go.

    :(

Hmmm, sorry but that's the best I can do.
It seems so you must contact the vendor or the shop you bought the notebook from for further support.

make sure to follow the steps in the crisisbios with the same bios you tried to install.
try to make sure the USB-FDD is connect to the right side of the notebook.
The file you need to recover the bios, is the bios installed on you machine so not the newer version but the old version.

I had BIOS 1.10 before, and I tried to flash to BIOS 1.12.

Is 1.10 the BIOS embedded with the CrisisTools .imz image ?

One thing that is strange to me : my USB FD Drive is connected to the right side of the laptop, but when I follow the procedure, it never light up, the led never blink.

no i don't think so it's more a recover set.
but you must use the latest bios so user version 1.12.
If the USB-FDD isn't working, well the light is going it seems to be mee then just bad flash!!!!
If you connect a USB stick, check if the light is going on.

Same result with an USB stick.

But one weird thing : when I plug in AC and then plug my USBFDD, WITHOUT holding FN+B, the USBFDD led light on.

When I do the same while holding FN+B, it doesn't.

The strange thing is that when using FN+B procedure, the laptop power on for 2-3 seconds when I press the power on button, then power off. And if I keep holding FN+B, the power on & battery leds keep blinking every 5 second, with a blue light for pwr on led & an purple light for battery led.

then wait till the USB-FDD light is on then press the FN+B see if it works.
Make sure the bat is out and you are connecting with the AC.

Did you try what I told you? And the device doesnt need to be bootable. You last resource if my info didnt work for you is to call ASUS. They were the ones who told how to recover my bricky notebook when it was death.

by the way, the light on is because even though you dont see anything from your screen your computer is looking for the bios file to restore your system. If you follow the procedure ASUS gave me (counting you had an American Megatrend BIOS) I am almost sure it will work. If you have another BIOS brand just contact COMPAL and they will tell you what would be the procedure for their brand. When I was in your situation I even contacted American Megatrend and they told me that their crisis tools are always modified by the company that use their bios and same happen to Phoenix bios and so on. Usually COMPAL, ASUS, Dell, and so on change the way their crisis tool works for bios recovery. ANd it doesnt have to be bootable just with a valid media with the BIOS file on it. My notebook was dead for 2 days and no one here could help me until ASUS replied to me and Im writing again from my restore C90S
