First post and what a way to start.
A couple days back I tried to run a clean reinstall of xp, but got BSOD right after choosing to install xp. The error stated that I should disable caching / shadowing, but I'm not seeing that option on the BIOS screen. What is really weird is that I can still install vista with no problems and cant install xp on a virtual machine(still getting the same error). I was thinking maybe reflashing my BIOS again with 1.16 might or maybe switching the RAM.
Any thoughts?

Do you have the ahci enabled? If yes disable it.

It is infact disabled.....it just says i have to disable caching or shadowing from the BIOS. Was also wondering if doing a BIOS flash would help or is that too extreme.
Here is a snapshot of what i am getting:

The bios and video shadowing is enabled by default, you can't disable that... What is your bios version?

version 1.16, updated it a few months ago

You are up-to-date... I've just remembered that the shadowing advice is a generic message displayed in most of the bsods... Try another xp cd, or test the ram...

thanks!!! , will try both and report back tomorrow.

Seems like the culprit was in fact a bad medium. Got it installed now

Good! I'm happy that you got your problem fixed.
