Occasionally when I start my machine for the first time (cold) it starts loading Vista but crashes to blue screen on start up.

The error message on the BSOD is Internal_Power_Failure, and clears after a few seconds and the machine restarts.

The crash recovery windows boot console comes up, I select start windows normally, and the machine works fine.

Once the machine boots, I can restart or do a full shut down start without repeating the error.

This has been happening since I got the machine, and in talking with RKC, they indicated it was a Vista issue with USBs. I have been diligent in unplugging my USB hardware, which helps, but I still get the error occasionally.

Since the system is very stable other than this, it has only been annoying, and I was hoping a Windows update would eventually fix it.

Unfortuanately I am still having the problem, and I have not seen many other posts with the same issue.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

this happens to me when i overclock on the multiplier. but try this.
    set bios to default.
make sure your multiplier is at 9.5
you may need to reflash your bios.
if you can afford it, do a clean install of your os.

go into msconfig and disable all to see if that fixes it.

it can be a simple software conflicting with your hardware. do you have rmclock installed. or a power management software?

I saw one case where VMware caused this (vmware loads a driver that enables it to use USB connected devices).

Other than that, that error sounds like a power issue and it would make me nervous.

I'd probably see if that error recurs with Windows 7 or reinstall vista to see if it repeats (or wait a couple weeks for sp2) before panicking, but I wouldn't be comfortable with that error either
